Hideauze

History
The Hideauze were a race of aquatic based species that had achieved space travel and spread through the cosmos. Their origins were actually traced to Earth when it began to experience the effects of a new Ice Age. Attempts at made at leaving the planet by humanity through technological means and whilst this was occurring there were other initiatives being conducted to adapt to the changes. One resulted in the formation of the Self Evolving Movement or Evolvers that utilized genetic engineering. They began to look at the planet's aquatic life forms and sought the answer there. The actions of the Evolvers, however, provoked hostilities with other parts of the world that were opposed to the genetic experiments being conducted. In time, the Evolvers completed their first successful test namely bonding a human with a cephalopod making a true hybrid. This led to hostilities between the Evolvers and their allies with the rest of the world but still the experiments continued. In time, the Evolvers made their next breakthrough which was a hybrid that could survive in space. By this point, their enemies had built large scale colony ships and intended to escape into deep space from the Ice Age on Earth. Their developments led to the building of a large scale wormhole gate in order to leave the solar system and they intended to leave the Evolvers behind. The Evolvers learnt of this plan and managed to intercept the gate and fleet where they as well were deposited into deep space. Thus, the Evolvers slowly transformed into a race of spacefaring creatures that humanity referred to as the Hideauze. Humanity that went off into space formed the Galactic Alliance of Humankind and suppressed the history of the Hideauze amongst its citizens with the true origin of their enemy being known only to command personnel. Thus, the Hideauze became considered as an alien threat that needed to be wiped out for Humankind to achieve dominance. Meanwhile, the Hideauze seemingly lost much of their intelligence and simply sought to expand and breed in number. Since that time, the war between the Galactic Alliance and the Hideauze was constantly waged by both sides that sought to defeat their foe. Unknown to either side, Earth managed to recover from the Ice Age where it became a water filled world. Its surface contained the few survivors of humanity and a branch of aquatic based Hideauze still resided deep underwater.
Overview
These space based organisms contained a hard exoskeletal shell that was composed of nanomachines known as lightbugs. Earth-based Hideauze became known as whale-squids to humanity on the planet and shared many of the same genetic links with their space based brethren. A critical difference, however, was that they were far weaker and lacked the strong shells of their space based cousins.
