Biography
Origin
Izaya was a male member of the New Gods born following the destruction of the Old Gods where he came to be on the world of New Genesis.
In his younger years, the time of war between New Genesis and Apokolips had passed where he came to befriend the Apokoliptian prince Drax. (Jack Kirby's Fourth World v1 #2)
One day, he spent time in the wilderness with his wife Avia when they were ambushed by Steppenwolf and his demon raiders. During the skirmish, Izaya was able to fight off his foes when Steppenwolf pulled out a gun and shot at him. However, Avia intercepted the blast at the cost of her life leaving Izaya grieving her death and he swore to avenge her. Darkseid then seemingly killed Izaya though in fact left him alive to engineer a war between their worlds. Upon regaining consciousness, Izaya then became a leader amongst his people and led them in a terrible war against Apokolips. (New Gods v1 #7)
After his death, his staff became embedded in the Source Wall as it sought to return back to the Source. Desaad learnt of its location and intended to use it to restore Darkseid's power after he was drained of his Omega power from a brief time he was embedded in the Source Wall. To accomplish this task, they intended to use a mind controlled Superman to get the staff for them. (Superman/Batman v1 #40)
Post-Flashpoint
Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.
In an effort to stop the White Light from killing him, Kyle Rayner willingly surrendered himself to Highfather so that the New God technology could be used to separate the ring from him. This was successfully complete and Kyle requested that the other stolen rings be returned to their owners. However, Highfather refused and found the various Lantern Corps to be meddling with forces that they did not understand and that for the good of the cosmos had to be stripped of this power. Carol Ferris then used her Star Sapphire powers against Highfather who managed to easily deflect the attack and had intended for her to waste her power in the gesture. With both humans depowered of rings, he called for a Boom Tube that sent them to the surface of Genesis to be away from his plans for the universe. With the white ring, he then had the completed Life Equation which he tested on a barbaric world whose inhabitants were transformed into obedient soldiers in service to Izaya which he intended to use as part of his war against Apokolips. (Green Lantern: New Guardians v1 #36)
His army was then attacked by the Source-Titans that had been animated by the power of Black Hand who had been recruited by Hal Jordan. The giant beasts ran amok on New Genesis and damaged the city threatening to cause it to crash onto the surface. Highfather attempted to wield the Life Equation against all his enemies but Kyle Rayner made him realise that he was acting just like his rival Darkseid. In horror, Izaya decided to relinquish the power of the Life Equation back to Rayner and allowed the Green Lanterns to help save New Genesis. He then called off the fighting as he had seen the error of his ways and called the Green Lantern allies where he had them sent back to their homes with their conflict being over. Thus, the New Gods went to the task of rebuilding New Genesis after the damage it had experienced in the fighting. (Green Lantern Annual v5 #3)
