Biography

Origin

Hinata Hyūga (Japanese: 日向 ヒナタ, Hepburn: Hyūga Hinata) was a female human of the Hyūga clan (日向一族, Hyūga Ichizoku) born in the village of Konohagakure in the Ninja World. She was the eldest daughter of Hiashi Hyūga (日向ヒアシ, Hyūga Hiashi) who was the head of the clan and came to have a younger sister named Hanabi Hyūga (日向ハナビ, Hyūga Hanabi). When she was a child, the head ninja of Kumogakure was visiting the hidden leaf under the guise of signing a peace treaty between their villages. However, in reality, the hidden cloud simply wanted the Byakugan of the Hyuga clan and kidnapped Hinata but the head ninja was ultimately killed by Hiashi who saved his daughter in the incident that came to be known as the Hyūga Affair.

Afterwards, Hinata underwent intense training and pressure from her father who raised her as an heiress with he family expecting great things from her. However, her father believed she was ill-suited for the role from a young age when she began to struggle under the brutal training regime. Furthermore, he believed that her timid personality prevented her from truly achieving excellence. In that time, Hinata's younger sister Hanabi began to display superior talent compared to her older sibling led to Hiashi beginning to reconsider Hinata's selection as heiress. Ultimately, Hinata came to be disinherited from the clan where she was relegated to the care of the jonin Kurenai Yūhi.

Naruto

Despite how recently they graduated from the Academy, Kurenai enters Team 8 in the Chūnin Exams being held in Konoha; Hinata agrees to participate because she wants to change herself. For the exams' first stage, Hinata is seated next to Naruto as they take a written test. The objective in the first stage is to cheat off of other examinee's paper without getting caught, but Naruto doesn't realise this and agonises about potentially failing. Seeing this, Hinata offers to let him copy off of her paper. He suspects she's trying to trick him, but she assures him that she only wants to be helpful. Although he considers taking her up on her offer, Naruto ultimately declines, fearing that he'll get her disqualified if they're caught and claiming that, besides, he was not the type to cheat. Although Naruto is given the opportunity to forfeit, he refuses to do so, and for his determination, he passes the first stage along with Hinata and their teams. For the second stage, participants enter the Forest of Death with the objective of obtaining a set of two scrolls, one of which they are given at the start. Team 8 manages to collect their second scroll right after the second stage has started, and so they head for the centre of the forest where they're supposed to turn in the scrolls. Along the way, Kiba's partner, Akamaru, senses the Three Sand Siblings' fight with Team Shigure. Team 8 watches the fight from the cover of some nearby bushes and is horrified when Gaara mercilessly kills all of Team Shigure. After they're certain Gaara won't kill them too, they proceed to the centre of the forest.

After passing the second stage, the remaining participants take part in one-on-one preliminary matches. During Naruto's fight with Kiba, Hinata's loyalties are torn; she wants to cheer for Naruto, but fears that would be rude to Kiba. Ultimately, Kiba came to lose the match and Naruto proved to be the victor of the fight. Hinata went to provide ointment to aid in Kiba's recovery but he told her to keep it for herself. Kiba warned her that if she was ever paired to fight either Gaara or Neji that she should forfeit. It was then that the organiser randomly selected Hinata to fight Neji. Before their fight started, Neji told her to quit as she was not skilled enough to be a ninja and that he would not hold back. This combined with Hinata's own fears left her paralysed until she was spurred on by Naruto thus forcing her to find courage to continue the fight. She then fought Neji with the both of them using the Hyuga clan's martial arts technique where Hinata's skill surprised everyone watching the fight. Hinata and Neji exchange Gentle Fist-blows, but only Neji's are effective, which he reveals to be because he sealed her tenketsu at the start of their fight. Although her attacks are ineffective against him, Hinata continues fighting, in the process enduring mounting internal trauma from Neji's counterattacks. Neji repeatedly tells her to forfeit, but Hinata refuses, unwilling to back down both as a matter of principle and because Naruto continues to cheer for her.

Neji directly attacked Hinata's heart, leading all but Naruto to believe she's been defeated. When Hayate Gekkō is about to declare Neji the winner, Naruto stops him and motions to Hinata struggling to her feet. Neji tells her that her attempts to fight her destiny are only bringing her harm, but she rebuts that his own attempt to fight the destiny of the branch house brings him even more harm. Neji is enraged and attempts to kill her, but he is stopped by the observing jōnin. Hinata collapses, the damage to her organs being too severe, and before she loses consciousness she sees Naruto checking on her; she wonders if she managed to change at all. She's taken away by a team of medical-nin to be given emergency medical attention. After a month, on the day of the Chūnin Exams' final matches, Hinata has recovered somewhat. Although she's supposed to take it easy, she practices at the Third Training Ground. Naruto stops there on his way to finals and is glad to see she's better. Because he's scheduled to fight Neji, Naruto shares his concerns that he might not be strong enough to defeat him. Hinata says that she believes he is strong enough, and that even if he isn't physically strong he still has strength of perseverance: a willingness to keep trying despite apparent failure until he finally conquers his obstacle. She admires him for that. Naruto is put at ease, thanks her, and informs her that his impression of her as "weird" was wrong, as he actually likes her. Hinata is left speechless as he walks away. Hinata watches Naruto's fight against Neji with Kiba. Seeing Naruto receive so many of Neji's attacks upsets Hinata and causes her internal injuries to begin bleeding again. Kiba gets a member of the to treat her. Although the Anbu heals her, she was rendered unconscious and thus is unable to watch Naruto's defeat of Neji.

According to Kiba, Hinata visited Naruto while he was in the Konoha Hospital after his failed attempt to stop Sasuke Uchiha from defecting from Konoha. When she saw how badly hurt he was, she immediately fainted.

Two-and-a-half years after Naruto left Konoha to train, Hinata heads to a meeting with Kiba and Shino. As she approaches them, she sees them talking to Naruto. She screams in surprise and hides behind a fence while she tries to build up the courage to greet him. Having heard her scream, Naruto investigates the source and, finding Hinata, says hello to her, inadvertently making her collapse from shock. Naruto invites Team 8 to help him on a mission to find Sasuke, but they can't since they've already got another assignment.

Teams 7 and 8 are combined into an Eight Man Squad with the mission of locating Sasuke or Itachi Uchiha. When they split up to search, Naruto, because he's a target of Akatsuki, is given a protective escort in the form of Hinata, Yamato, and Bull. Their group is soon confronted by Kabuto Yakushi, who offers them intel on Akatsuki and its members. Noticing something strange about Kabuto, Hinata examines him with her Byakugan and discovers that a third of his body has been taken over by Orochimaru's remains. Kabuto escapes and they later regroup with the rest of the team. Kiba is able to find Sasuke's trail, which they begin following. As they near Sasuke's location, they are intercepted by Tobi of Akatsuki. They make repeated attempts to kill or capture him, but every attack passes through him without sign of damage. Suspecting a genjutsu is being used, Hinata searches the area with her Byakugan to locate a caster, but can find nobody. She focuses on Tobi's chakra signature to try and understand how his ability works, but is mystified when it simply vanishes. Tobi leaves them when he receives news that Itachi has died while fighting Sasuke. Hinata uses her Byakugan to locate where their fight took place and they rush to reach Sasuke before Tobi does, but they are too late and cannot rediscover his trail.

Hinata was in the village when it came under attack from Pain who was the leader of the Akatsuki. He dispatched his six bodies to devastate Konoha and unleashed a powerful jutsu that levelled the hidden leaf. Only a few band of survivors managed to escape death with among them being Hinata and her guardian Kō Hyūga. They came to witness Naruto's return where he battled Pain after having attained Sage Mode allowing him to fight his opponent as an equal. Naruto came to destroy the other five Paths of Pain leaving only the Deva Path as his only opponent. However, he was defeated by Pain who pinned Naruto to the ground using the sharp black chakra receiver rods. Seeing Naruto being wounded, Hinata rushed to his side despite the attempts of Ko in keeping her away from the fighting. She attacked Pain and got between him and Naruto where she looked to remove the black rods that had pinned Uzumaki to the ground. Seeing this, Pain easily stopped Hinata who never gave up despite her injuries as she sought to protect her love. She came to finally say that she loved Naruto when Pain struck her in a seemingly mortal blow and stabbed her. The apparent death of Hinata caused Naruto to fall into despair where he allowed the Nine-Tails to take over his body as he sought revenge against Pain. Meanwhile, the other hidden leaf shinobi came to recover Hinata who was in fact still alive though badly injured with Sakura using her medical ninjutsu to heal her wounds.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Hinata Hyuga was a slender girl of fair-complexion whose most distinguishing trait was her Byakugan that gave her featureless white eye. Due to her eyes, she was sometimes referred to as the Byakugan Princess (白眼の姫, Byakugan no Hime, Literally meaning: White Eye Princess). After marrying Naruto, she came to join the Uzumaki Clan and took his name leading to her being known as Hinata Uzumaki (うずまきヒナタ, Uzumaki Hinata).

As a child, she was soft-spoken and polite with hr always addressing people with proper honourifics.

As a member of Team 8, she originally was overly reliant on her teammates and looked to them in times of difficulty to save her from situations that made her uncomfortable.

She longed for Naruto to watch her the way she had watched him from the distance. Thus, during her match against Neji, she was determined to win to show to Naruto that she was a capable warrior and that so Naruto could watch her in the match.

Hinata Hyuga was the daughter of Hiashi Hyūga (日向ヒアシ, Hyūga Hiashi) who was the head of their clan. She was also the older sister of Hinabi Hyuga (日向ヒアシ, Hyūga Hiashi). From the branch family, she came to have a cousin named Neji Huyga (日向ネジ, Hyūga Neji). She came to be disinherited from the clan after she was deemed ill-suited to be its leader but despite that she still loved them greatly and even agreed to marry Toneri Ōtsutsuki if it meant saving her sister.

For a long time, she came to hold feelings for Naruto Uzumaki (うずまきナルト, Uzumaki Naruto) with this stemming from seeing him when she was growing up. She took an interest in the boy that was being shunned by the rest of the village with her guardians warning her from associating with him. One day, she ran from home and was picked on by some bullies until she was saved by Naruto who instead took the hits from them until her guardian arrived at the scene. Since that time, she came to develop feelings for him and in fact came to love him. Despite that, she struggled to confess her feelings to him with her often blushing, being embarrassed and stammering when she spoke to him whilst he was oblivious to her romantic views for him. One of her efforts in trying to make her feelings known to him was through knitting him a red scarf. After marrying Naruto, the pair came to have two children together with an older son named Boruto Uzumaki and a younger daughter named Himawari Uzumaki.

Powers and abilities

Hinata Hyuga was a human born in the Ninja World where she had the natural ability to manipulate chakra and use it to achieve various feats including jutsu.

As a member of the Hyūga clan, she came to be an inheritor of the kekkei genkai dōjutsu trait that was the Byakugan (白眼, Literally meaning: White Eye, Meaning (Viz): All Seeing White Eye). It was a visual prowess jutsu that manifested from birth and was said to be descended from the Sharingan. However, unlike the Sharingan, there were no conditions for its use and it was able to obtain a wide amount of information when in use. Using the eyes gave her penetrative vision in a near-360° around herself, with one blind spot at the back of the neck above the first thoracic vertebra. With it, she could identify genjutsu user and could help search for the caster in the nearby area.

She came to be taught in her clan's unique style of combat that was the Gentle Fist (柔拳, Jūken) which was a form of taijutsu. Unlike others, this style inflicted internal damage to a person by targeting the body's chakra pathway system which in turn damaged the internal organs that were closely intertwined to an area struck. This involved injected some of the users own chakra into their opponent's pathway system with this causing damage to the surrounding organs in close proximity to the chakra circulatory system. Even the slightest of hits was noted to cause severe internal damage and was the reason it was referred to as the 'gentle' fist style. It was the use of this taijutsu alongside the Byakugan that allowed her to determine the best areas to hit in a target to disrupt their chakra pathway system. By adulthood, she became well-known for her mastery of the Gentle Fist and could even knock out a target with a single strike to their tenketsu.

Among the techniques known to her included:

  • Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms (八卦六十四掌, Hakke Rokujūyon Shō) :
  • Eight Trigrams Thirty-Two Palms (八卦三十二掌, Hakke Sanjūni Shō) :
