Hugin and Munin are a duo of animals that feature in Marvel Comics.

History

Hugin and Munin

They were joined by a third raven named Hescamar where all three worked in servitude to Odin. (Thor v2 #13)

Hugin and Munin once came to Odin in his great hall where they told him of whispers that Ragnarok the Twilight of the Gods was set to befall Asgard. This led to the All-Father going to the Well of Wisdom in order to consult with the all-knowing Mimir. (Thor v1 #274)

After becoming King, Thor came to inherit Hugin and Munin who became his messengers where they always stood by his side. (Thor v6 #2)

Overview

It was said that in reality the pair were not truly ravens. (Thor v6 #2)

Their master was capable of speaking through them. (Thor v6 #2)

All memory was him was gone but he was imbued with Odin's power where he gained a humanoid form where he adopted the guise of Marnot. (Thor v2 #13)

  • Hugin and Munin were created by Roy Thomas and John Buscema where they made their first appearance in Thor v1 #274 (August, 1978).
  • The names of Odin's two ravens when translated meant 'thought' and 'memory'.
