In Greek myth, Icarus was the impulsive son of the great inventor, Daedalus. The pair built sets of wax-and-feather wings, that they used to escape the island of Crete where they were imprisoned. Daedalus warned his son not to fly too near the sun, since it would melt his wings, but Icarus did not heed him- he flew too near, the wings melted, and Icarus fell to his death.
