Biography

Iguana was a humanoid reptile created accidentally by Dr. Curt Connors who was looking for a means of purging the Lizard Formula from his system. To achieve this, he created an bio-nervator which he tested it on an iguana. However, the process instead mutated the animal turning it into a humanoid being with the memories of the Lizard. The Iguana hypnotized Connors to forget what had happened. It would stalk at night and return to its original size and cage by day. However, while accompanying some Empire State University students and graduate students to the Bronx Zoo, the Iguana caused Connors to take it into a dark house for reptiles, in which it assumed human form. It encountered Spider-Man, and was driven off by blinding light. (Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man v1 #33) The Iguana knew that Connors, having regained his memories, would try to destroy it. The Iguana travelled to Connors' house on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, to abduct Connors' wife and son to use as insurance to prevent Connors from such attempts. Realizing that the Iguana might try this, Spider-Man traveled to Connors' house as well and fought the Iguana again. However, Connors had deliberately transformed himself into the Lizard to assist Spider-Man and defend his family. The Lizard travelled to his house as well and attacked the Iguana. At first, the Iguana and the Lizard battled one another but then decided they both hated Spider-Man more than they hated each other and decided to destroy him before resuming their conflict. However, Spider-Man had retrieved Connors' Enervator and used it against the two reptile men. Spider-Man siphoned the Lizard's power, turning him back to Connors. He fed the additional power into the Iguana, which initially made him more powerful, but caused him to burn with power and explode on contact with a water fountain. A normal sized iguana was seen in the shadows as Connors and Spider-Man returned to ESU. (Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man v1 #34)

At some point, the Iguana was noted to had mutated back to his humanoid form once again. He came to find himself at the reptile house of the Central Park Zoo. Controlling reptiles at Central Park Zoo, he planned to destroy humanity and ring in a new age of reptiles. Spider-Man arrived the scene where he was immune against Iguana's hypnotic stare due to special lenses he was wearing at the time. He fought and beat Iguana as well as his reptiles up despite problems with being distracted by numerous calls on his mobile and being weakened from a recent battle with Morlun. After defeating Iguana, Spider-Man webbed him up for the arriving authorities. Another phone call, this time from Ana Maria Marconi, interrupted them as Ana wanted to know where he was when he was supposed to be at a meeting to promote security technology to the Department of Corrections. Iguana tried to explain that he had a serious issue regarding the plight of reptiles, but Spider-Man ignored him and beat him into submission. (Amazing Spider-Man v3 #16) The Iguana was among the many animal-themed super-beings that were abducted by Kraven the Hunter for his grand hunt. He was placed at an enclosed hunting ground designed by Arcade who created robots styled on Kraven that could be piloted by the rich in order to safely hunt the dangerous prey. During this time, Iguana attacked one of the hunters but the pilot in a rage through the hunter killer robot seemingly killed the villain. (Amazing Spider-Man v5 #18)
