Biography

Imperator Furiosa was a female human who lived in the post-apocalyptic world that suffered from a societal collapse due to war and critical resource shortages. Furiosa was born in the "Green Place," one of the few locations in the post-apocalyptic wasteland of the Mad Max franchise where plants still grow. She was raised by the Vuvalini of Many Mothers, an all-female survivor civilization. As a child, she was kidnapped along with her mother, who died in captivity. Separated from her clan, she eventually found herself in the employ of Immortan Joe, a brutal warlord who rules the "Citadel," one of the last major human settlements. Furiosa grows up to become a capable driver and soldier. She helps Joe transport valuable trade goods across the wasteland, which is dotted with bandits and thieves. Along the way, she earns the title "Imperator."

She eventually rose in the ranks to become a general in the army of Immortan Joe. As Imperator, she came to be the leader of his military forces that were the War Boys.

After weeks spent protecting the Five Wives, Furiosa started to become protective of them, especially after Organic Mechanic called them for a routine medical procedure and to act as entertainment for Immortan Joe, which resulted in the Dag's rape and her pregnancy. Furiosa explained to the Five Wives that she can take them to the Green Place even though she was not sure if it still exists. Right after revealing that, she was relieved of her duty as The Five Wives' protector and was given a new War Rig. She was then presumably performing routine supply runs to Gas Town and the Bullet Farm until one night she appeared again in the Bio Dome and ordered The Five Wives to go with her. She hid the women in the tanker of the War Rig and left Miss Giddy in the Bio Dome vault with a shotgun, as she was too weak to survive the journey.

Imperator Furiosa was then assigned a mission by Immortan Joe where she was to travel to Gas Town and Bullet Farm in order to trade water for fuel as well as ammunition. Though dispatched on the assignment, Furiosa secretly enacted her own plan in freeing Joe's wives from captivity. She intended to smuggle them into the war rig and take them to her former home that was in the Green Place.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Imperator Furiosa had a buzz cut with her forehead often smeared with grease. She was missing her left forearm, but it is substituted by a mechanical prosthetic consisting of various parts.

Furiosa is a strong-willed and moral leader. She takes the initiative to save the Five Wives from Immortan Joe with little regard for her own well-being and without any desire for reward, save for personal redemption for offscreen misdeeds. She aims to take the Wives to the Green Place, but is devastated to learn that it is now an uninhabitable swamp.

Powers and abilities

At some point, she lost her left arm that was gone from below the elbow that she replaced with a mechanical limb strapped into it with a harness.

Furiosa was armed with a handgun and an SKS rifle.

She was noted for driving the War Rig that was a fast and powerful truck able to transport several people.

Notes

  • Imperator Furiosa was created by George Miller where she was portrayed by actor Charlize Theron and featured in the setting of the Mad Max universe.
  • In an interview, Charlize Theron revealed that Furiosa was originally supposed to be another one of Immortan Joe's wives, but was infertile: "[George Miller and I] talked about backstory, about how she ended up with no arm and that she was discarded. She couldn't breed, and that was all that she was good for. She was stolen from this place, this green place that she's trying to go back to. But she was kind of embedded in [the Citadel] for one thing, and when she couldn't deliver on that one thing, she was discarded – and she didn't die. And instead... she hid out with those war pups in the world of mechanics, and they almost forgot she was a woman because she grew up like them."
