Biography

Origin

Imperiex

Before arriving to Earth, Imperiex obliterated countless other planets. Kalanor, Karna, and Daxam are three known planets destroyed in his cataclysmic campaign. Whole galaxies were also targeted for demolition as Imperiex Prime sought to fulfill his destructive destiny, obliterating one universe so that a new one would be born. After destroying Karna, Imperiex arrived at Almerac, the home of Maxima, and not only destroyed Almerac but "hollowed" the entire galaxy. After this, the survivors of the dead worlds, Brainiac 13's Warworld, Apokolips, and Earth formed a coalition, with Darkseid as its commander, to fight against Imperiex Prime and his probes. Finally arriving at the Milky Way Galaxy, Imperiex began sending in numerous probes. On Earth, several of Imperiex's machine-colony "Hollowers" destroyed Topeka, Kansas as well as seven other places when they began to dig into Earth to ready it for Imperiex's final demolition. (JLA: Our Worlds at War v1 #1)

Superman battled and destroyed a number of Probes in Zaire. Imperiex said that trying to defeat him was futile, since his destiny to create a new Big Bang was part of the natural order. Imperiex' command ship destroyed by the JSA so he could no longer manufacture probes, so he launched an all-out attack with his remaining Probes on the Alien Alliance space arks and Washington, D.C. The space ark was defended by Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and Hippolyta, who sacrificed her life to fight them off. The Probes in Washington were destroyed when Major Sam Lane sacrificed his life to detonate the nuclear engine of his tank. (Action Comics v1 #781)

President Lex Luthor rallied the super-heroes of Earth, the U.S. military, and other countries, such as Pokolistan, together. Furthermore, Luthor had decided that Superman alone did not have enough power to lead a strike force, arranging for Doomsday to be released from captivity and brainwashed to see all Imperiex probes as Superman. They fought the probes and managed to destroy several until Imperiex Prime himself was finally drawn to them. Doomsday was outmatched and vaporized, only his skeleton remaining, but Superman survived. (Adventures of Superman v1 #594) Thanks to the sacrifice of Strange Visitor and General Sam Lane, Earth's forces managed to crack Imperiex's armor, intending that Darkseid would subsequently use Boom Tubes to transfer Imperiex's energy back to the galaxies he had destroyed. However, Brainiac-13 appeared on the battleground with Warworld, absorbing the Imperiex energies and vowing to use them to rule everything. (Superman v2 #173)

Superman was able to beat back Brainiac-13, but learned Imperiex's energy was alive and powering Warworld, and that the defeat of Brainiac would free Imperiex. Superman came up with a plan to deal with them both, he had Lex Luthor, who'd regained command of LexCorp Towers, fire the temporal displacement beam into space the same moment Darkseid used the Omega Effect from Apokolips to create a Boom Tube in space. Steel used the Entropy Aegis to fuse the two, creating a Boom Tube that opened up to the beginning of time, which swallowed Warworld. Imperiex set off a big bang that melded with the original, allowing him to fulfill his purpose, and scattering B-13's consciousness across all spacetime. (Action Comics v1 #782)

Post-Flashpoint

Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events. Imperiex

Overview

Personality and attributes

He did not consider himself evil but rather a force of nature. Imperiex intended to end what he perceived as the pain of a corrupt universe by hollowing it and bringing about a new universe. It was his hope that the next universe that formed from his efforts was free of corruption and rightly built.

According to Waverider, Imperiex was classified as an omni-temporal threat.

Powers and abilities

It was stated that he was a being made of pure energy with his power taken from the destruction of entire galaxies.

One tool at his disposal were a series of probes built in his own image known as Imperiex Probes. These constructs were composed of machine colonies that gave birth to smaller better machines as they evolved. Each crèche continued to operate and mate endlessly leading to volumetric expansion at an exponential rate. These probes were created by Imperiex Prime from himself and if one were destroyed than the energy released returned back to his vessel whereupon it was fed back into him. This allowed him than to restart the process again making the construct allowing him an unlimited supply of such soldiers.

His vessel was the size of Jupiter and its fuel cells consisted of white dwarf stars.

In other media

Television

  • In Legion of Super Heroes, Imperiex featured in the setting of the animated television series during its second season as one of the main antagonists where he was voiced by actor Phil Morris. This version originates from Apokolips in the 41st century, possesses cybernetic enhancements, and was originally a gladiator before becoming a universal conqueror, with the artificial intelligence K3NT creating a clone of Superman named Kell-El to oppose him. After Kell-El travels to the 31st century to gain the titular Legion of Super-Heroes's help, Imperiex follows him through time and allies with the Fatal Five, the Legion of Super-Villains, and the Dominators to battle them. Eventually, he manipulates Brainiac 5 into succumbing to the original Brainiac's influence, only to be betrayed and killed by him.
  • In Legends of Tomorrow, the character was mentioned in the episode "Marooned" where Captain Rip Hunter attempted to bluff a group of Time Pirates and claimed that Ray Palmer had fought in the Imperiex onslaught.
