The Isle of the Blessed was a small island that featured in BBC's Merlin.

History

It was said to be an ancient place and one avoided by the Humans of the world. When Prince Arthur of Camelot was bitten by the venomous magical bite of the Questing Beast, the Great Dragon told Merlin that only the Old Religion was capable of saving him.

Thus, Merlin went to the Isle and encountered Nimueh who used her magic to heal Arthur. However, the Old Religion craved balance and thus Merlin's mother suffered from a wasting disease that would kill her. Distraught, Merlin sought to sacrifice his own life to save his mother. His mentor Gaius instead sought to use his own life as penance and went to the Isle to trade his life for Merlin's mother.

However, Merlin intervened and battled Nimueh which resulted in her death. With her life ended, the balance was restored with Merlin's mother making a recovery and Gaius saved from the sacrifice.

Background

The Isle was a mystical location that was said to reside beyond the white mountains and past the Valley of the Fallen Kings. It was a land that was deeply involved with the Old Religion's magic.
