Biography

It

It arrived on Earth in a massive cataclysmic event similar to an asteroid impact, landing in a location in North America that would eventually become Derry, Maine. Once people settled over this location, It adopted its usual pattern of a 25-27 year hibernation, waking to kill and eat. Each awakening and return to hibernation is sometimes marked by a violent and tragic act, such as a mass murder, suicide or weather event. In the period between, a series of child murders occurring in Derry are never taken too seriously or solved. It is outwardly explained that a series of murders, no matter how gruesome, don't get reported if they happen in the small town. However, the real reason was that the influence of It prevented anyone from investigating too deeply.

Overview

Personality and attributes

It primarily appeared in the form of Pennywise the Dancing Clown. What was seen was not Its actual form, but rather a form in the physical realm. The true form of It existed in an inter-dimensional realm of eldritch energy referred to as 'Deadlights', existing outside the physical world. Any living being that sees the "deadlights" would go insane almost instantly or die. Bill Denbrough comes dangerously close to seeing the deadlights and the shape behind the shape for a brief moment. He described it as an endless, crawling, hairy creature made of orange light.

The reasons behind It’s actions is that it eats for its own survival and satisfaction and then it goes dormant usually after a year's worth of feeding. It is a deadly predator that primarily hunts for food. But only if it can scare its prey before feasting on it.

It was a predator of humans where it preferred children to adults. Most importantly, It desired to consume those it had made terrified of itself. The creature implies that this enhances the flavor. It's preference for children prey may be due to how they taste, but also may be due to the fact that children are easier to scare.

Powers and abilities

It's true essence were the Deadlights, extradimmensional orange radiance which are at once a type of magic spell as well as the being's actual form. All its abilities can be said to be a very derived form of light manipulation, but It can use the lights more directly to simply kill or drive people insane.

The Ritual of Chüd is the only known way to kill the earthly avatar. However, it is heavily implied that Its true form still exists within the Macroverse and is eternal and can never truly be killed. This means that It could send another physical vessel of Itself to repeat the process on Earth again.
