James Strickland

Chief Marshal James Strickland was the ancestor of Principal Gerald Strickland and the chief marshal of Hill Valley in 1885. His unnamed son was Strickland's grandfather. Marshal Strickland was always at odds with the villainous Buford "Mad Dog" Tannen, to whose gun he would eventually fall victim (although the scene with Marshal Strickland actually being shot was deleted from the film). As he lay dying, Strickland impressed upon his son the importance of discipline, a tradition carried on through the Strickland who would be principal of Hilly Valley High from 1955 to 1985.
