Biography

Origin

James Braddock Jr.

Captain Britain

Battling the Goats, the rest of the heroes came to learn that the Goat was actually a future incarnation of Jamie possessed by a devil that wanted to conquer the Omniverse. Unable to see a means of defeating their foe, Betsy took psychic control over her brother Brian and forced him to kill Jamie. This act caused the Goat to be erased from the timeline thus ending the threat to Otherworld. (Uncanny X-Force v1 #23)

House of X

After Apocalypse's death, Jamie was present in the resurrection chamber to see him reborn and accompanied him to Avalon. There, he witnessed Betsy battle the forces of Morgan le Fay who had bewitched their brother Brian. Apocalypse proposed a duel between champions of Krakoa and Avalon leading to a fight between Betsy and Brian. Brian was critically injured thus leading to Morgan le Fay's defeat and the terms of the fight meant that she had to stand down as ruler of Avalon. In her place, Braddock as Monarch came to be the new King of the magical lands of Avalon where he used his reality manipulation abilities to bring his brother Brian back to life. (Excalibur v4 #6)

With the contest over, he returned to Avalon where he along with Excalibur discussed the loss of his sister Betsy. He agreed to court sorceress Meggan joining the Krakoans in their search for finding Betsy. Meanwhile, Jamie secretly met with Mister Sinister over creating a clone of his lost sister. (Excalibur v4 #16)

Overview

Personality and attributes

He was later given the code name of Monarch. (House of X v1 #1)

His brother Brian later had a blonde-haired daughter with Meggan with this child being his niece Maggie Braddock. (Excalibur v4 #16)

Powers and abilities

Jamie was able to split his own timeline into many, making the members of Excalibur a Captain Britain in the newly created pocket realities. With each incursion he makes, they can branch off into however many realities he wants, with him in complete control. (Excalibur v4 #11)

Jamie can create something or someone entirely new with a simple thought such as a psionic butterfly or a space port for Mars. (Planet-Size X-Men v1 #1)

However, after his resurrection, Jamie demonstrated magical prowess near arcanepotence, including the summoning of extra dimensional creatures and mind control over others. (Infinity Countdown: Black Widow v1 #1)

Notes

  • Jamie Braddock was created by Chris Claremont, Herb Trimpe and Fred Kida where he made his first appearance in Captain Britain Weekly v1 #9 (December, 1976).

Alternate Versions

  • In Uncanny X-Men v1 #464 (2005), an alternate version of Jamie Braddock appeared in the House of M reality that was designated as Earth-58163 in the Multiverse.
  • In Ultimates v2 #1 (2011), an alternate version of Jamie Braddock appeared in the Ultimate Marvel reality that was designated as Earth-1610 in the Multiverse. Jamie Braddock is the brother of the former Captain Britain, Brian Braddock, and son of Dr. James Braddock. Though Brian survived an attack on Parliament by the Madrox's during Magneto's attack several months earlier, Brian Braddock stayed comatose. Brian was also affected by cancer. Jamie took up his mantle, blaming his father for Brian's situation. Jamie quickly became the leader of the European Defense Initiative's reconstituted Super Soldier Program. When the E.D.I. sent him along with different European Captains to talk to Asgardian Gods, he found himself battling the Children of Tomorrow with the help of Thor. He was the only Captain who survived after capture, being later rescued by Thor. He then joined the Ultimates. After the US president activated the Winter Protocols, Jamie and Spider-Woman were arrested by S.H.I.E.L.D.. This shut down the Ultimates at that time.
  • In Uncanny X-Force v1 #23 (2012), an alternate future version of Jamie Braddock was shown to exist in the Omniverse. Years in the future, it was said that he formed a deal with Horoam'ce the Goat Devil of Self-Propagation. This saw him transform into a being called the Goat with the devil inside of him looking to spread, multiply and dominate. Within Jamie's mind, it saw the Tower Omniverse and sought to spread itself like a mind-cancer across the Multiverse. Thus, it stole the Orbs of Necromancy and used a time travel pedestal to journey to modern day to conquer the Tower during a time when Merlyn was in hibernation.
