Jasper Herrick
Sir Jasper Herrick, husband of Lady Irene Herrick and father to Julie Herrick, had earned his immense wealth through diamond mines in Africa discovered with the help of family friend Robert Griffin. However Jasper lost most of it in bad investments, leaving him and his family with just their large mansion and his title. On the fateful trek through the jungle to reach the diamond mines all those years ago the Herricks had lost Griffin and thought him dead. Years later, Griffin turned up out of nowhere, alive, demanding his share. With no money to give to Griffin without bankrupting themselves, Jasper and Irene were forced to get rid of him and confiscate the written agreement to give Griffin his share, so that Griffin's lawyer would have no evidence in court.
However Griffin, insane with rage and paranoia, agreed to become a human guinea pig for local scientist Dr. Peter Drury's experiments, which turned him invisible. He then threatened Jasper and his family to give him their estate and all of their money, and also to let him marry Julie. Jasper initially refused but threats of violence cowed him quickly. From then on, Griffin, able to become visible again for limited periods of time thanks to blood transfusions, became the lord and master of the Herrick residence, until, finally, after he attempted to kill Mark Foster, he himself was slain by Dr. Drury's dog Brutus, freeing Jasper and his family from the mad invisible man's hold.
