Charles Lane was a male human who lived on Earth where he came to enlist in the police by adulthood. (Smash Comics v1 #22)

Following the Crisis on Infinite Earths, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.

The Lane family were descendants of Walter Delane who was a court jester for King Arthur. Since that time, they had a hand in shaping events in the world in secret where they were part of the Arcadian secret society that had a hand in the formation of the United States of America. (Freedom Fighters v2 #4)

Personality and attributes

It was said that the Lane's were descendants of real European court jesters. (Smash Comics v1 #22) In fact, they were said to be the descendants of Walter Delane who was a court jester to King Arthur. They were said to be political animals with a family obligation to a greater dream that began at the Round Table and culminated in the Oval Office. (Freedom Fighters v2 #4)

Powers and abilities

He carried with him a rubber clown head called Quinopolis that he could throw at his enemies in order to knock them out or distract them. (Smash Comics v1 #47)

The Lane's were part of a secret society called the Arcadians that had to remain in the shadows in order to preserve their integrity. They were said to police the world where they shaped events to create the future with this involving developing their political power. (Freedom Fighters v2 #4)

  • The Jester was created by Paul Gustavson where he made his first appearance in Quality Comics Smash Comics v1 #22 (May, 1941).

In other media

Films

  • In Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, the identity of the Jester appeared in the animated film where he was voiced by actor James Patrick Stuart though this one was the Earth-3 version of the Joker.
