Jet Black
Originally a police officer in the Inter-Solar System Police living on Ganymede, Jet Black was known as the Black Dog of Ganymede, because once he stuck his teeth in something he never let go. While a good man, he was very controlling which caused his girlfriend Alysa to walk out on him. Later on, Jet became a threat to one of the local syndicates, and while chasing down one of their lead operatives (Udai) with his partner Fad, he was unaware Fad was on the syndicate's payroll and had his arm shot off by him. For many years he assumed it was Udai who had done it.
With the loss of his arm and growing frustrated with the corruption in the ISSP, Jet left to become a bounty hunter. He bought an old fishing ship, and remodeled it, naming it The Bebop. He also teamed up with a man named Spike Spiegel. For three years, they travelled around the solar system hunting down bounties.
In 2071, Jet much to his own chagrin took in Faye Valentine, Ed and a Data Dog named Ein. Jet took care of them as mechanic and cook, enjoying the company even though he would never admit to it. He once again found Alysa and settled things with her, and later teamed up unofficially with Fad again to stop Udai from escaping from a prison ship. It was here that Jet learned the truth about Fad's betrayal, but when Fad allowed Jet to kill him, the two made peace as friends.
Eventually, Spike's rivalry with his old enemy Vicious caught up with all of them. The Red Dragon Crime Syndicate shot down The Bebop, and when Spike later realized he had to go and confront Vicious, Jet cooked him one last meal, and the two said good-bye without saying good-bye.
Jet was last seen polishing up The Bebop, left alone there with Faye, knowing that Spike would never return.
