Biography
Number One was a male Cylon who was one of a series of human-Cylons that were created by the Final Five in the aftermath of the Cylon War. In exchange for ending the war, the Cylon Centurions were given the ability to create human-like models and resurrection technology. Number One was the first of the eight human models created where he was given the name John by Ellen Tigh with his likeness being based on his biological father. It was said that 'John' was treasured by the Five where he assisted in the creation of his kin. (Episode: No Exit)
After being poisoned by her husband, Ellen Tigh came to die and be resurrected on one of Cavil's ships where she was held prisoner for 18 months. (Episode: No Exit)

Number One fully embraced his identity as a machine and believed humans to be inherently lesser than Cylons. As such, he dismissed Ellen Tigh's arguments for humananity as she believed that despite all their imperfections they had something real and precious in concepts such as love, compassion, creativity, emotion. - In an interview with writer Ryan Mottesheard in the Chicago Tribune it was said that, "John/Cavil is the only one who knows the Final Five because he corrupted the programming of the other six models to never speak of the Final Five or search for their identities. Obviously, if they did, then his little house of cards topples, which is why he boxed D'Anna."
