After the death of his parents, he came to be adopted by his father's best friend and partner Jefferson Smith.

With his parents dead, he was adopted by Jefferson Smith who was the best friend and partner of Josh's father.
Powers and abilities
This was until he was accidentally exposed to semi-liquid, microscopic Nano-Tech machines called Max Probes.
The nanoprobes were incapable of surviving on their own and required an influx of Transphasic energy.
