Jun Kazama is a female video game character who features in Tekken.

Biography

Jun Kazama (Japanese: 風間 準, Hepburn: Kazama Jun) was a Japanese woman born in the modern age as a member of the Kazama family. She was noted to had grown up surrounded by nature on the island of Yakushima where she was taught the ways of the Kazama-style martial arts and developed strong psychic abilities, before moving to Tokyo when she reached adulthood. City life distanced her from spiritual surroundings which was when the ghost of her father appeared before her thus reaffirming her beliefs in the supernatural. She came to be a wildlife surveillance officer W.W.W.C. conservation group. Kazama had been investigating as part of the Rare Species Export Division for some time. It was during her time in Tokyo, while working for W.W.W.C., that she heard of a man named Kazuya Mishima, who was involved in the smuggling of protected animals. Jun sensed a mysterious power surrounding Kazuya and decided to enter the second King of Iron Fist Tournament to both put an end to the illegal smuggling and free Kazuya from whatever power it was that surrounded him.

Her time with Kazuya led to the two sleeping together where she became pregnant with their son. The existence of the child was kept a secret where she gave birth and raised her son who she named Jin Kazama. Raised in seclusion, she came to train Jin in the Kazama style of self-defense martial arts. During these years, she could sense the coming of a great evil and prepared her son for the encounter. She did tell Jin that if anything were to happen to her that he should seek out his paternal grandfather Heihachi Mishima. On Jin's 15th birthday, her fears came to pass when their home in the wilderness was attacked by a monstrous creature known only as Ogre. Jun screamed for her son to run away but Jin wanted to stay behind to protect his beloved mother. He was prepared to fight the beast in order to save Jun but Ogre proved to be too powerful for him and knocked him unconscious. By the time he regained consciousness, the battle was over with his home having been burnt to the ground and his mother missing. Jin came to desperately search for her but she was nowhere to be found with the young man presuming that his mother had died in the battle against Ogre. Swearing revenge against Ogre, he decided to follow his mother's wishes and went out in search for Heihachi Mishima.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Jun was a young woman of Japanese descent with fair skin and short black hair. She has bangs that frame her face, and wears a white headband or scarf in her hair. She often has a monochrome palette, wearing clothes of white and black, emphasizing her purity of character. She wears functional clothes, usually associated either with her work as a WWWC officer, or martial arts training gear.

Jun grew up surrounded by nature on the island of Yakushima, where she was taught the ways of the Kazama-style martial arts and developed strong psychic abilities, before moving to Tokyo when she reached adulthood. While city life distanced her from spiritual surroundings, her father's ghost appeared to her, reaffirming her beliefs in the supernatural. Jun is someone for whom spirituality is important. After coming to Tokyo for her work, she became disillusioned being so far from nature, only becoming renewed in her dedication after she was visited by the ghost of her father.

One of her relatives was the young Asuka Kazama.

During the first King of Iron Fist Tournament, she came to meet Kazuya Mishima where she developed a close bond with him. Jun was determined to save him from Devil's possession.

From her time with Kazuya, she came to be pregnant with his son who she raised by herself and named Jin Kazama. She held a deep and strong love with Jin where the two shared a strong bond to one another.

Powers and abilities

Jun Kazama was a female human descended from a family noted for their strongly psychic nature and ties to nature. Brought up within Yakushima Island's abundant nature, Jun was instructed in the secrets of Kazama Aiki-Jujutsu, but unfortunately dwelling in Tokyo for a long period of time has cost her the ability to commune with Mother Nature. One night, Jun saw her late father's spirit and came to understand paranormal phenomenon.

She was a practitioner of the Kazama Style Traditional Martial Arts that was a mixed martial arts based on other famous martial arts that was passed down her family for generations. This saw her being instructed in the secrets of Kazama Aiki-Jujutsu.

By adulthood, she came to be an Animal Protection Officer of the WWWC that was a wildlife protection organization.

  • Jun Kazama was created by Seiichi Ishii where she made her first appearance in Tekken 2 (1995).

Television

  • In Tekken: Bloodline, Jun Kazama appeared in the setting of the Netflix CGI anime television series where she was voiced by Japanese actress Mamiko Noto and by English actress Vivian Lu in the dub.

Films

  • In Tekken: The Motion Picture, Jun Kazama appeared in the setting of the 1998 OVA anime film where she was voiced by Japanese actress Yumi Tōma and English actress Edi Patterson in the dub. As a child, Jun witnessed Kazuya Mishima being thrown off of a cliff by his father, Heihachi Mishima. She climbed down the cliff to try and save Kazuya, but unfortunately, she was unable to find him. She was haunted by this experience all through her childhood and into her adulthood. In the present day, Jun is an officer of the WWWC, a wildlife protection organization. She is highly psychic and can sense a mysterious power surrounding Kazuya.
