Jurai is a planet that features in Tenchi Muyo!.

History

Jurai (Japanese: 樹雷星, Hepburn: Juraisei) was a planet that was located within the Milky Way Galaxy.

Around 150,000-years ago, the Chousin goddess Tsunami in a search for god decided to descend onto the mortal plane where the giant sleeping humanoid form was on the planet Jurai. During this time, she was discovered by a man who would eventually become the first emperor of the planet. After waking up, Tsunami sensed potential in this man as she could tell that this man and his descendants had the capacity to produce the kami that was sought by the Chousin. Thus, Tsunami came to pledge herself to this man from House Masaki and vowed to protect him as well as his descendants where she blessed them with great power. Her great power came to take the form of the Royal Trees whose mighty power made Jurai and its rulers a galactic superpower.

During Azusa Masaki Jurai reign, he was known to had created an edict that allowed for the people of Jurai to mate with people from other worlds. However, this was noted to had not been popular among the people who were opposed to the concept of outside blood mingling with them. Around this time, he had mated with a human from Earth and had a half-breed son named Yōshō Masaki Jurai who came to be an heir to the throne. At this time, Yōshō had a younger half-sister named Ayeka Masaki Jurai was also a contender to the throne with royal politics meaning that the two siblings were set to fight for the throne. However, a marriage was arranged between the pair as an alternative to prevent hostilities but many Juraians were opposed to Yōshō's claim due to his heritage. In this time centuries ago, the villainous scientist Kagato wanted to inquire the royal seeds of the planet Jurai. To accomplish that, he sent the space pirate Ryoko who conducted a massive attack on the planet Jurai. This saw Prince Yōshō Masaki Jurai battling her where he pursued her into deep space with their fight taking them to the planet Earth after luring her there. Once there, he managed to subdue her where he took away her powers and sealed her in a cave thus trapping her for centuries. Yosho then decided to remain and retire on Earth with his fate being unknown to the people of Jurai.

Overview

Jurai was home to the Royal Trees (王立樹, Ouritsuju) that were intelligent life forms from the planet. These plants were descended from the mighty Chousin goddess Tsunami and their incredible power made Jurai a powerful force in space. Each was capable of bestowing great powers and long life to those Juraian royals that bonded to them with their strength activated by special devices known as keys. The trees were able to provide power to Juraian starships with this stemming from energy supplied from Tsunami-no-ki through a subspace network. Royals were known to bond to first-generation Royal Trees when they were 8 years old where they named their tree. The power of the life trees and the waters generated by the trees was known to prolong the life of royals Juraians allowing them to live for centuries. Seeds of royal trees were known for being valuable treasures from the planet Jurai.

The world was ruled by the Imperial House of Jurai (樹雷皇家, Juraiouke) whose members took the name "Jurai" as part of their names after bonding with one of the Royal Trees. It was said that marriages amongst relatives in the family was not uncommon. Its leader held the position of Emperor and their wife was the Empress of the Juraian Empire.

Jurai were masters in the art of body enhancement where they were able to biologically engineer a person to enhance their abilities such as strength, endurance an lifespan.

They also had a degree of expertise in the Guardian System whereby force fields could be used as a suit of armor and as a weapon. These augmentations were entirely external where they an be called on for extra offense or defense.

A weapon used by the people of Jurai was the key (鍵, Ken) that were items that helped the person access the true power of the planet Jurai through a Royal Tree.

Master Keys (マスター キー, Masutaa Kii) were created from the first generation Royal Trees and had the power to control all treeships. It was said that the keys were powerless if separated from the energy of the tree.

Royal Trees could serve as the brain of a Juraian spaceship and could replay memories of past events. They were capable of manifesting the godly power of the Light Hawk Wings. Crashed Juraian ships could see the tree taking root where at which point they could never become a starship once again.

2nd generation sapling trees were capable of destroying a planet with a single shot.
