History
K'ai was a subatomic world that was noted to had existed within the universe. (Incredible Hulk v1 #140) It was actually a world that resided within the realm known as the Microverse. (Incredible Hulk v1 #610)
In time, it was decided that the Queen Jarella needed to take on a mate to rule as king of their world. However, a prospective husband had to prove themselves under law by defeating the warthos that threatened. Around this time, Jarella's city by the gigantic Warthos and secretly by the armies of the Warlord Visis. At this time, the Hulk appeared in K'ai during an attack of the Warthos and drove the huge monsters away. When the people came out to greet him, the Hulk was startled because they are green-skinned like him and that they welcomed him rather than running away. The Hulk defeated Warlord Visis who was exposed and exiled. The Hulk then began a romance with Jarella. The Hulk lived with Jarella for a time, until the supervillain Psyklop found him in K'ai. (Incredible Hulk v1 #140)
Psyklop observed that the Hulk had accidentally kicked K'ai while leaving the planet, causing chaotic earthquakes. Creating a large drilling device, Psyklop began to create catastrophic earthquakes on K'ai, capturing the spirits of those he killed and telling the planet's inhabitants he would only stop his destruction if they worshipped him as a god. The Hulk confronted this "angry god", and destroyed all his weaponry. Psyklop resorted to using his hypnotic powers against the Hulk, sending the Hulk out to attack the inhabitants of K'ai. The Hulk was returned to normal by sorcerers of K'ai and he smashed the ground hard enough to break the urn in which Psyklop kept captured spirits; the spirits then consumed Psyklop. Jarella later journeyed to Earth with the Hulk. She died while saving a boy from being crushed under a falling building. Captain Mar-Vell shrank the Hulk so that he could return Jarella's body to K'ai for a proper burial.
The city of K'ai was eventually destroyed by Visis' forces. K'ai's legions were reduced to a few scattered groups harassed in their own realm. Jarella taken prisoner by Visis to his mountain stronghold OF Castle Visis. Hulk returned once again and was briefed about the situation by the Pantheon of Sorcerers. Visis pressured Jarella to reluctantly marry him but Hulk timely interrupted, leading a pack of Warthos into Visis' castle and rescuing Jarella. Together, they started rallying the population and the legions against Visis' forces, and soon, Jarella's forces were about to wage their final battle by attacking Castle Visis. Meanwhile, Visis fled to Pitll Pawob, the Isle of Assassins where he offered the Pitll Pawob assassins' steward Krylar to be come his full allies. After Krylar demonstrated a Pitll Pawob machine projecting one's fear, Visis was impressed and Krylar accepted his offer, intending to betray him and have the Pitll Pawob to rule. Using it, Visis generated a Hulk construct which he took as champion to challenge Banner. The Pantheon reversed the spell that Banner control Hulk's body, causing the Hulk construct to vanish. Thinking he was betrayed, Visis slew Krylar. At this moment, Hulk was returned to Earth once again. (Incredible Hulk v1 #156)
Hulk's enlargement while departing caused massive eathquakes due to Hulk accidentally kicking K'ai from its orbit. Those quakes were soon believed to be caused by the anger of the Mountain God. Psyklop used a massive drill to cause more quakes and harvested the souls of the victims in the Essence Urn, intending to buy his way out of exile. (Incredible Hulk v1 #203)
K'ai was merged into the Microverse when all the Micro Realms were merged into one. The Hulk (in his Gray incarnation) would return to K'ai one last time, having been summoned by mystics to stop a holy war that came about after he was declared a god, with both sides claiming they alone heard the Hulk's "divine word." In return for his aid, the mystics cast a spell that suppressed the Bruce Banner side of the Hulk's personality for three months. Some time later, Drax the Destroyer was transported to the Microverse with Genis-Vell, where, for a time, he found acceptance and happiness on the planet K'ai. The Hulk's son Hiro-Kala arrived on K'ai, and saved the planet from dying by bringing it out of the Microverse. He then took his place as leader of the world.
The planet's Worldmind intended to heal Hiro-Kala and have him come to embrace the Oldpower so that peace could reign. However, Hiro-Kala refused this and instead subverted the Worldmind with him instead forcing K'ai into the Earth solar system as he intended to purge the Oldpower from the universe. Its arrival alerted the Avengers with Skaar coming to sense the presence of his brother for the first time. (Incredible Hulks v1 #613) The fleet of ships pulling it through space went past Jupiter as it continued on its course. The Hulk along with his allies sought to intercept it where he intended to try to connect with his other son though Skaar warned that Hiro-Kala had become a monster by this point. Upon arriving on K'ai, the Hulk sent his friends to help stop the planet from reaching Earth whilst he sought Hiro-Kala though the other Son of Hulk sent waves of mind controlled people of the planet against him. (Incredible Hulks v1 #615)
To save K'ai, Axeman Bone took the She-Hulks to the Worldmind who revealed that it had the power to curing those stripped of freewill by Hiro-Kala. It was instrumental in saving the planet where it used its power to entrap Hiro-Kala in stone as it deemed that his crimes were irredeemable. The Worldmind had intended to use itself as a prison for the insane Sakaaran and to be the core for the orphaned world thus ending the threat posed by Hiro-Kala. (Incredible Hulks v1 #617)
