Biography

Kancer

The creature's origins are linked to Avruskin of Pokolistan, the second "General Zod" infected Superman with a form of cancer via the use of Kryptonite. The disease ravaged his Kryptonian physiology and would have killed him had it not been for the help of Team Superman, with the help of Dr. Emil Hamilton. Dr. Hamilton was able to extract the organism from his body and thus seemingly allowed him to survive.

General Zod managed to retain samples of infected cells from the incident which he cultivated. The creature grew into an entity he dubbed as Kancer. The creature had a cloned imperfect copy of Kryptonian DNA which allowed it to harm even the seemingly invulnerable Kryptonians. The grew into a humanoid green mass with calcified crystalline growths from his body.

Zod, Faora, Kancer and Ignition led a bloody invasion of Berlin. President Luthor sent Superman to stop them, and Zod told him he attacked Berlin simply because he could. Their fight was a stalemate, and they agreed to conclude their fight later when Superman had to retreat to confront Imperiex in Kansas. (Action Comics v1 #780)

Later on, Zod promised manpower to help President Luthor defeat Brainiac-13 and Darkseid if Luthor promised to make Pokolistan a world power, and Luthor agreed. Zod, Ignition, Kancer and Faora fought off Brainiac's drones in Metropolis and enabled Lex to enter LexCorp Towers, where Brainiac had his temporal displacement cannon. (Superman: The Man of Steel v1 #117)
