Biography
Katherine Manx was a female human cat-like alien who came to Earth where she served as a technical expert for the planet's S.P.D. As chief technologist in S.P.D., she was responsible for the invention of all of Earth's S.P.D. technology, from the Judgment Scanner to the Delta Command Megazord. During all S.P.D. missions, she can be found in the Command Center running ops and providing scientific assistance to the Rangers. Kat was part of the early days of Earth's SPD branch, when it was a top secret organisation in 2001. She was one of several scientists, along with the B-Squad's parents, who worked with highly energized chemicals that led to the B-Squad's mutations. Kat is also a good friend to Commander Cruger, though she considers him a "stubborn old dog", and provides a reasoned argument against his more emotional decision. When General Benaag captured her, Cruger accepted the Patrol Morpher that she had given him and became the Shadow Ranger.
Kat was granted the use of her own temporary Delta Morpher by Commander Birdy to become the S.P.D. Kat Ranger, making her the first female Other Ranger. The Kat Ranger costume is half-orange and half-white with cat-like ears, making her the first 8th Ranger and marking the first time that a Power Rangers team has had three female rangers on one team. Her powers expired after an hour. Her costume was similar to those of the B-Squad, but she did not have a number on her Ranger form like the other members of S.P.D. Instead, she had a heptagon as her chest symbol. As Kat Ranger, she created blinding auroras and threw feather-like "Cat Stunners". She wanted desperatly to help out against an enemy called Mooney who was a former classmate of hers and was given the Morpher to fight. She captures Mooney herself after stopping his giant robot.
Before the final battle she and Boom are captured by Broodwing who turns the Delta Base into its Megazord configuration. Thanks to R.I.C. the two escape and shut the Megazord down allowing B-Squad to defeat and capture Broodwing. During the final battle against the invading Troobians she, Boom and Sam led the S.P.D. cadets in the battle to protect the Delta Base. Together they held off the forces long enough for reinforcements led by Birdy and Sergeant Silverback to arrive as well as Nova Ranger allowing them to defeat the enemy. During the fight against Omni The Magnificence, she analyzes the enemy and finds its weak spot and gives the information to Cruger and the Rangers who use it to destroy Omni even though she knows it may cost Cruger his life. Kat is relieved to see that Cruger and his wife survived and watches the final fight between Emperor Gruumm and Cruger that results in Gruumm's capture. Afterwards Kat remained at S.P.D. Earth Station. (Episode: Endings)
Overview
Personality and attributes
She is a humanoid alien of an Unknown world with feline features and, despite her youthful appearance, is 147 Earth years old.
Kat Manx is intellectual, headstrong and resourceful lady with a calm and intuitive persona. She is naturally authoritative and willing to take the lead when necessary, and has a professional mentor-like relationship with the Rangers and Boom.
In terms of the Rangers this could be argued to be a somewhat parental role from time to time and she is certainly greatly cared for by B-Squad. That said, she is clearly able to establish firm professional boundaries - often opting to take a professional attitude with Cruger when in front of other staff members. She also does not divulge much about her own feelings and personal life. For the most part she is able to put her own feelings aside to benefit SPD. She is intuitive and discerning, and uses this judgement to know when it may be appropriate or necessary to cross the line (e.g when she confides in B-Squad that Cruger told them they were "the best he's ever had", pushing Cruger to be the Shadow Ranger and knowing Bridge is lying when he says Grumm did not say anything further. She is occasionally playful and lets out strong emotions: her anger at Cruger and breakdown in the final battle being two big examples - as well as being known to crack a big smile out of relief or pride. She seems to consider this as a weakness though which may explain her hatred of goodbyes.
Kat is shy in the face of praise and not exempt from making mistakes - on one occasion she trusted Piggy to provide safe hardware out of desperation.
Powers and abilities
As a member of an unknown feline race, Kat exhibits exterior features resembling that of an Earth cat. Her cat-like physiology makes her exceptionally agile. These traits she used to become a skilled fighter.
Although Kat was a scientist by trade, she was not helpless in the field. She led the defense of the Space Patrol Delta Base against the final Troobian invasion.
Kat was shown to have fighting potential and to be able to hold her own for a while. She was able to performs a graceful rainbow spin that launches opponents in the air.
Kat Morpher was Kat Manx's version of the Delta Morpher that allowed her to morph into the S.P.D. Kat Ranger. It was similar to Cruger's Patrol Morpher in the sense that its functions were limited. However, the Kat Morpher was a one-hour disposable model given to Kat by Fowler Birdie.
The Kat Stunners were feather-like weapons used by the Kat Ranger in battle.
