Biography

Kei Kawade

Kei sat in a parked vehicle and utilized a pen and sketchbook to produce a drawing of a large, monstrous entity. As he completed the illustration, the creature he had depicted physically manifested in the immediate environment, appearing in the sky above him. He observed the entity as it engaged in physical combat with the Hulk and a group of other individuals. Following the manifestation, he remained in a stationary position and monitored the movements of the creature he had summoned. When the confrontation shifted locations, he maintained a visual connection with the entity and expressed a degree of awareness regarding its state. He stayed within the vicinity of his guardians and continued to carry his drawing materials as the larger conflict unfolded in the surrounding area. (Totally Awesome Hulk v1 #3)

The following hours, when the amount of invading Leviathons increased exponentially, Kei remained at Parker Industries, using his powers to summon monsters to help the superheroes fight the Leviathon Tide and redistribute them throughout the globe as the situation demanded it, a position which put Kei under pressure, due to his feeling of inadequacy and the discomfort he felt with manipulating creatures into fighting on his behalf. Parker Industries was soon targeted by the servitors of the Leviathon Mother, whose sole mission was to murder the young child. The combined efforts of the heroes defended Kei from the servitors, but the Leviathon Mother herself made earthfall soon afterwards. (Monsters Unleashed v2 #4) Having recognized it was his responsibility to stop the Leviathon Mother, Kei personally confronted her. With all the monsters he had summoned defeated, he decided to try his hand at finishing the drawings of six monsters he had come up with on his own. The gamble worked, and Kid Kaiju managed to summon Slizzik, Hi-Vo, Aegis, Fireclaw, Scragg, and Mekara to his aid. The monsters were capable of holding their own against the Leviathon Mother, until she killed Fireclaw. As a last-ditch effort, Kei used his powers on himself and his monsters, temporarily merging them into Smasher, who managed to put an end to the Leviathon Mother and kill her. Once the dust settled, Kei requested the heroes to return home. He was given an entire island the Inhumans created for him, named Mu, which served as his and his parent's home, as well as a refuge for his monsters. Elsa Bloodstone was also asked to guide him and protect him. (Monsters Unleashed v2 #5)

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Kid Kaiju was a male of Japanese-American descent with a youthful, rounded face, dark eyes, and short, dark hair that was styled with a fringe over his forehead. His facial features were characterized by a small nose and a standard jawline for an adolescent. He possessed a small and slender body type with a narrow frame and average height for a pre-teenager. His attire consisted of a light-coloured, short-sleeved t-shirt worn under a dark-coloured, open short-sleeved button-up shirt with a collar. He wore dark-coloured, knee-length shorts and simple, dark-coloured athletic shoes with white socks. He carried a rectangular messenger bag with a single strap worn across his chest, which he used to store his drawing supplies. He was also depicted holding a sketchbook and a drawing utensil as part of his standard ensemble. (Totally Awesome Hulk v1 #3)

Powers and abilities

Kawade demonstrated the ability to physically manifest monstrous entities by drawing them onto paper with a standard pen. He exhibited a high degree of artistic skill, producing detailed sketches of creatures in a short amount of time while in a stationary position. He possessed the capacity to communicate with these entities, appearing to understand their vocalizations and intentions despite their lack of human speech. This summoning ability was shown to be involuntary or difficult to control, as the specific monsters that appeared were not always those he intended to call. He displayed standard human physical attributes for a child of his age, with no signs of enhanced strength, speed, or durability in his own form. Additionally, he showed the capacity for interdimensional perception, allowing him to observe and identify creatures existing within different dimensional planes. (Totally Awesome Hulk v1 #3)
