Biography

Kaizō Konpaku (Japanese: 改造魂魄, Translation: modified soul) was an Underpod (部下強化型 (アンダーポッド) created by the Soul Society's Project: Spearhead. The artificial souls were designed to enhance human physiology where they were intended to be placed in dead bodies in order to help shinigami fight against Hollows. However, the project was later deemed inhumane by the Soul Society and came to be shutdown with all the existing Mod-Souls to be terminated. Kon though managed to escape where he luckily came to find himself in a Soul Candy dispenser that ended up in a storage room held by Kisuke Urahara. It came to find itself in Urahara Shop in the world of the living where the tainted dispenser was in a box of poor merchandise which he had intended to dispose of but never came around to it.

Kon's first appearance is shortly after Rukia Kuchiki and Ichigo obtain an item known as gikongan (Soul Candy) from the Urahara Shop, which are candy-like orbs stored in dispensers similar to those PEZ come in. The Soul Candy, when ingested, forces Ichigo's soul out of his body and replaces it with an artificial, pre-programmed soul, allowing Ichigo to transform if Rukia is not around. Unbeknownst to everyone (including the Urahara Shop's employees), the particular Soul Candy dispenser Urahara gives Rukia had been declared defective by Soul Society, as it was made from a batch meant to be turned in for destruction. These pills contained modsouls, artificially created souls designed to combat hollows. Additionally, these souls have personalities, unlike the common artificial souls. Each modified soul was designed to have their own special strengths; in Kon's case, his legs. Upon first testing the item, Ichigo and Rukia leave it to its own devices while they go to fight a Hollow.

He was later recruited by Don Kanonji to be part of the Karakura Superheroes where he gained the name Karakura King. The team members use him as a crash test dummy for painful, seemingly useless, and unnecessary experiments. Kon jumps from the frying pan into the fire though, when he decides to quit and is then abducted by a female Hollow who wishes to keep him as a pet. The Hollow is finally vanquished by the team with Kon utilized as a weapon. Kon was passed from Ururu like a volleyball to Jinta Hanakari, hit by a Jinta Homerun towards Karin and finally kicked at the Hollow with the Karin Impact Kick.

As Ichigo prepared for school, he came to find Kon's stuffed lion body ess badly torn. While Kon complains about his reaction to this, Ichigo tells him that he will bring Uryū home to repair him, which he duly does, including adding a Quincy cross to the back of his head which Kon is not aware of. Later, Kon takes over Ichigo's body while he is dealing with a Hollow and goes out to have some fun in the town, only to run into Grand Fisher. He was saved by Isshin Kurosaki, who quickly dispatches Grand Fisher. Kon was left confounded by the sight of Ichigo's father as a Shinigami and Isshin reveals that he knew about Kon ever since meeting him during Grand Fisher's first attack at the graveyard.

Kon later greeted a despondent Ichigo when he enters his bedroom and asks about his father. Kon remembers Urahara telling him not to say anything about it to Ichigo and tries to cover his tracks, but Ichigo just lies on the bed. Kon then heads out for his daily walk, not wishing to have to watch him in the state he was in. When Rukia and Rangiku Matsumoto arrive at the Kurosaki Clinic, Kon enthusiastically greets them, but is violently put down before being studied by Rangiku and Renji Abarai. When Ichigo leaves to train with the Visored and causes Yuzu to cry over his disappearance, Kon comments Ichigo is a bad brother for making her cry.

After Ichigo went to Hueco Mundo, Urahara came to offer Kon the chance to be a superhero to fight Hollows in Karakura Town. At first, he refused but Kisuke said that being such a hero would make him a 'babe' magnet'. This led to Kon accepting where Urahara provided a backstory for his character as he became Konsō Cop Karakura-Raizer.

Kon is taken to the Shinigami Research and Development Institute. Eventually he encounters Ichigo there, accidentally hitting him. Ichigo does not recognize him because of his newly enhanced physique and how long it has been since he last saw him. Kon starts to tell Ichigo of the hardships he has been through, but Mayuri Kurotsuchi presses a button on a device that shrinks Kon to his old size and appearance. Later, much to his own surprise, Kon is used as a communication system by Urahara, still in Hueco Mundo, to contact Ichigo. When the Royal Guard take Ichigo and the injured Shinigami to the Soul King Palace, Kon sneaks along by hiding in Ichigo's robes. After Ichigo and Renji are healed, they are launched into the next domain. Finally being noticed, Kon changes back into his larger form to cushion the Shinigami's landing. They are greeted by Kirio Hikifune, who treats them to a banquet. Kon eagerly attempts to help himself, but Ichigo holds him back, saying that there has to be a catch. However, when Kirio tells them that there is none, they all proceed to dig in. After they eat, Kirio returns, shocking them with her new slender and attractive appearance. While Kon is blissfully staring at her, Kirio explains that using the same principals behind the Artificial souls she developed, the food has strengthened their Reiatsu. She warns them that they are going to the palace of the unpredictable Ōetsu Nimaiya, the creator of the Zanpakutō.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Kon as a Mod-Soul which meant that his form was dictated by the vessel he took as his body. Typically, he occupied the body of a small stuffed lion for most of the time. The doll had a light tan body with seams running up and down the entire thing. The arms and legs each have four white, flat claws which serve as his fingers and toes. A button is placed in the center of the body where his belly button would be. He has two beady black eyes and small ears with pink inside of them. His head is surprisingly flat when viewed from the side and he has a brown, spiky mane atop his head. Hanging from his lower back is a small tail.

Kon was quite perverted and often takes advantage of his form to get girls to hug him to their chest, which rarely goes as planned. After Ichigo becomes less dependent on Kon to transform when he receives the substitute badge from Jushiro Ukitake, Kon comments on how he wouldn't mind taking Ichigo's body out for a spin again, saying that he'd like to go pulling up skirts because, as he puts it, "It's Ichigo's reputation that gets sullied". Kon is very fond of Rukia, calling her "sister", though this extends to basically any pretty girl, especially Orihime Inoue and Rangiku Matsumoto. He is also attracted to girls with big breasts. Kon is also quite vain, using "ore-sama" as his personal pronoun (a very boastful way of referring to oneself), and despite initially opposing being put into a plushie, refers to it as his "sexy body."

He believed that all living beings had a right to live and die freely including himself. As such, he believed life was not something that should be taken from others. It was for this reason that he did not kill anything whether it was humans or insects.

Powers and abilities

Kon was a Modified Soul (改造魂魄, Kaizō Konpaku) which was an artificial soul created by the Soul Society.

He had a degree of spiritual power though this was less than spiritually-aware humans.

In the few times he was in combat, he has proven to be able to hold his own — in addition to possessing all the combat abilities of Ichigo's well-trained body, he was designed to have exceptionally powerful leg strength. He was able to fend Ichigo off in combat by using just kick-attacks and leg-blocks, and is able to kick aside massive hollows. He can run 100 meters in 3.8 seconds while in his plushie form, out running Ryo Kuneida, Karakura High's fastest runner, who can run the distance in 12 seconds. When in Ichigo's body, he was capable of jumping over 13 meters and 56 cm from standing position.

With his enhanced leg might, he is also capable of jumping over 13 meters and 56 cm from a standing position in Ichigo's body and effortlessly smash through a metal fence with a single kick.[6][88] In his plush body, he was able to lift a large rock many times his weight and run at high speed, even with his upper body pinned to it by a Bakudo spell.

Through modifications to his plushie form by Kisuke Urahara, the top of Kon's head is able to emit a display that can allow communication between Soul Society and Hueco Mundo. The eyes are switches for it.
