The Kothoga is a creature that features in The Relic.

History

A massive quadrapedal creature that was originally archaeologist John Whitney who injested a mutagenic fungal compound that transformed him into the monster of legend. It possesses a hairy spine along with a forked tongue and sharp teeth. Notable attributes are taken from numerous species from insects to reptiles. The creature feeds on specific hormones found in the brain of Humans or within the fungus itself which regulate the body without which the creature dies.

The Amazonian tribe that found the fungus would use it to create the monstrous Kothoga when they were threatened by invaders with the creature killing their enemies after which it starved to death without the hormone after which the tribe would emerge from safety.

Overview

Notes

  • In the original novel of the book, the creature was known as the Mbwun and was very different from its movie portrayal.
  • The name translates into 'Satan is my father'.
