Biography
Original
Kyle Reese was born sometime in 2003, apparently, his mother died in childbirth, while his father died when he was a young child. He survived the capture and killing of his fellow humans only to serve as a slave in one of Skynet's concentration camps, where he and others were forced to load huge numbers of dead bodies into Skynet's furnaces to be incinerated. Reese's freedom would come when a resistance movement, led by John Connor, freed him and the others from Skynet.
In 2029, Skynet has been defeated by human resistance, but manage to send one of its infiltrators back in time to assassinate Sarah Connor before she can give birth to John; the resistance decides to send a soldier back to defeat the Terminator and protect Sarah's life. Reese personally volunteers for a one-way mission back to pre-apocalypse Los Angeles to save her.
Once he had been sent back, he was told that the time displacement equipment would be destroyed, stranding him and the Terminator in 1984. Arriving naked and unarmed, and not knowing what the Terminator looks like in its human disguise, Reese steals clothes and a police-issue shotgun. He locates and follows Sarah (Linda Hamilton), shadowing her until the Model 101 attempted to carry out its mission. Reese rescues her from the Terminator's attacks in a nightclub and in a police station, warning her of the impending doom of the human race and of the future significance carried by her and her unborn son.
Though initially hostile towards Reese, Sarah grows to trust him as he becomes the only thing between her and the Terminator. The two grow closer as they continue to run from the Terminator and Kyle eventually reveals that he volunteered for the mission. Though battle-hardened and world-weary, Reese had fallen deeply in love with Sarah, a woman he had only known through a photo given to him by John, and traveled back in time to meet her. After Reese tells Sarah of this history, the two consummate their relationship and ultimately conceive John. The Terminator tracks them down and chases them through Los Angeles; Reese is wounded by gunfire, but manages to blow up a fuel truck driven by the Terminator before it can run over Sarah. However, its now-bare metal endoskeleton emerges from the fire and pursues them into an automated factory. Reese attempts to fight the Terminator but is overpowered, though he manages to wedge the last of his homemade pipe bombs into its chassis and set it off; the explosion kills Reese and blows the Terminator apart. The machine's upper body continues to crawl after Sarah, who crushes it in a hydraulic press to stop it once and for all.
Salvation
At some point after Judgment Day, Kyle has been working closely with Star, a young mute girl, and the two have developed a close working friendship which is based upon hand signals. Shortly after the activation of Marcus Wright, Kyle rescues him from a Series 600 Terminator that attacked him, destroying it in front of an old toy company. The two developed a working relationship soon after with Marcus teaching him several tactics to survive. He is not yet a member of the Resistance and is listed as being of civilian status according to General Ashdown, but Reese considers himself and Star to be the Resistance's Los Angeles Branch. After spending the night at Griffith Observatory, Reese, Star, and Marcus set out in a jeep to find John Connor. After a brief chase with a Skynet probe that scans Kyle's face, they briefly stop at a believed to be derelict 7-Eleven in the desert, but they find themselves with a group of survivors led by a woman named Virginia. They are offered food and supplies, but their rest is short lived when they are attacked by a Harvester. After Marcus stuns the heavy machine, Kyle is instrumental in trying to destroy the Moto-Terminators now giving them chase from his vantage point on the tow truck. This would be futile. Reese as well as Star were soon after taken hostage by Skynet and taken to Skynet Central aboard a transport. While underway Kyle would try to keep the troops rallied and looked for anything that could be considered a weapon. Upon arrival, however, he was separated when Skynet identified him and taken to an execution chamber. His quick thinking helped him in escaping from the Series 600 Terminator assigned to guard him and he was soon reunited with Star. Moments later, he would meet John Connor for the very first time, only to be attacked by the T-RIP, a prototype Series 800 Terminator sent to kill Connor. They would escape to the Terminator Factory where Kyle would work closely with Connor to build a bomb capable of destroying the machines along with the whole facility. Kyle was rescued by the Resistance and left alongside Connor and the rest of his squad. Back at a Resistance outpost after the destruction of the Skynet Central, Kyle is among the people watching John Connor, who is mortally wounded in the battle. John gives his jacket to Kyle before Marcus decides to provide his heart to John for the transplant surgery. After burying Marcus' body, Kyle finds a snapshot of Sarah Connor in the jacket given by John.
Sarah Connor Chronicles
Genisys
Kyle was born after Judgment Day. He grew up hiding among the ruins with his parents, who taught him basic survival skills and told him many things prior to the catastrophe until they were killed. Most of his early years were spent hiding from Skynet's Hunter-Killers. Some time later, he was spotted by an Infiltrator in a sewage, but John Connor showed up and saved him by destroying the Terminator. Kyle recalled this was the first time that he learned a Terminator could be destroyed. He then joined the Resistance unit known as Tech-Com under John Connor's command. They spent much time together not only as soldiers but also as friends. John gave him a snapshot of his mother, Sarah. They also tried to make distilled beverage but ended up blowing things up. Before the Operation Chrono, John Connor asked Kyle to join his force to take down a prison camp which was more crucial than the other complex in Colorado as this camp contained the final weapon of Skynet in case it lost the war. John told Kyle that if he had a choice, he would rather not ask him to join his team for the mission. After the Skynet was destroyed, the Resistance learned Skynet's plan of Sarah Connor's assassination. Many soldiers volunteered for the mission, but Kyle was the only one chosen for the mission to go to the year 1984 to protect Sarah Connor. Before the departure, Kyle asked John how could he know so much about every thing. John replied that it is because he "cheated". However, when seeing Kyle off, John was attacked by Skynet from behind, who infiltrates under the guise of a Tech-Com soldier Alex. As a result, Kyle gained memories of an alternate timeline.
