History
The Legacy was a secret society that was founded in the sixth century (500 A.D.) and began in England in the location where the Ruling Houses resided. It was created with the purpose of the collection of both knowledge and artifacts as well as solving paranormal problems along with protecting mankind from the threats of supernatural evils.
A member of the Legacy was noted to had rode with Napoleon where they made a copy of the Book of Anubis that was kept in the secret society's library. (Episode: Doppelganger)
Overview
In appearance, the Legacy was a secret society that was said to had existed forever where they protected others from creatures that inhabited the shadows and the night. Their true name was said to be only be known by the initiated. (Episode: Sins of the Father) It was said that the Legacy had fought evil for 3,000 years and battled it in every form it took. (Episode: The Fifth Sepulcher) The Legacy was said to be built on passion where it was charged with defense and the protection of everything. (Episode: Ghost in the Road)
Every member of the Legacy was said to have had their souls turned inside out at one point in their lives. (Episode: Tower Without Pity) The Legacy's battle against evil was said to bear a price with its members feeling that their souls were being chipped away piece by piece. (Episode: Man in the Mist) It was said that those members of the Legacy who left the house could never return to it though the rule could be interpreted in different ways. (Episode: The Fifth Sepulcher) Protocols said that the laboratory was off-limits to anyone except members of the Legacy. (Episode: The Twelfth Cave)
The leader of a House held the position of Precept. (Episode: A Traitor Among Us) Precepts were the only members who wear the ring with the insignia on it.
Among the various Houses, the chief among them was the Ruling House that was located in London. (Episode: A Traitor Among Us) It was known that some of the houses of the Legacy had gone renegade in the past. (Episode: Doppelganger)
Tribunals were assembled in times when a Legacy member was accused of crimes against the society such as conspiracy to bring ruin to a House and bringing about the death of a member. Precepts that were found guilty of these crimes faced being force to step down as leader and being removed from the ranks of the Legacy entirely. (Episode: A Traitor Among Us)
The San Francisco House was set in a castle-like mansion on Angel Island in the Bay.

- Giroloamo Savonarola : Savonarola was an Italian monk and martyr in the 13th century. He was noted for warning the terribly corrupt Borgia papacy in Rome that unless they mended their ways the Roman Catholic Church would fall. The Borgia Pope had Savonarola branded a heretic and killed. (Episode: Sins of the Father)

- Winston Rayne : Derek's father and former Precept of San Francisco Legacy House and founder/CEO of the Luna Foundation. He was an Archaeologist, could read and write Latin, ancient Hebrew and Greek. Possibly an alcoholic. Killed in Peru in 1969 by a demon from the first found sepulchre. Killed Joshua Cantwell the maternal grandfather of Rachel Corrigan and his 'good' daughter Ruth, Rachel's mother after mistaking her for Rebecca when Rachel was small. Good friend of Sir Edmund Tremaine of the London House. (Episode: Pilot)
- Derek Rayne : a multi-faceted man and scientist, with a PhD in both Biological Anthropology and Theology. He heads up this particular Legacy house under the guise of the Luna Foundation in his father's footsteps. Under his wing are a special group comprised of four diverse individuals: Nick, Alex, Rachel and Philip. They are what he considers his 'family' and even though they know him better than most, he still remains a mystery to them all.

- Randolph Hitchcock : Legacy member and an old friend of Derek's. Engaged to Alicia before her death. Once in trouble with State Department for buying oil wells in the Middle East. Left Legacy and never forgave Derek after Alicia's death. Tried to kill Derek by giving him Cain's Scroll. (Episode: The Twelfth Cave)
- John Milton : a member of the Legacy who was known to had operated in 1647. (Episode: The Man in the Mist)
- Salvador Reneau : the precept of the Belgian House who had the Sight and was was totally obsessed with defeating evil. (Episode: Ghost in the Road)
- Clare Spence : a female Precept of The Legacy Hong Kong House. (Episode: A Traitor Among Us)
- Charles Banyon : Precept of The Legacy New York House. (Episode: A Traitor Among Us)
- Edmund Tremain : Sir Edmund Tremain was the Precept of The Legacy Ruling House, London. (Episode: A Traitor Among Us)
- Jeanette Montpelier : Precept of Paris House, she was bludgeoned to death in 1865 in Paris. (Episode: Lights Out)
- Selwyn Roberts : Legacy member poisoned in Cardiff on May 19, 1761. Poison was found in the 18th century silver pitcher found in the trunk. (Episode: Lights Out)
- Heinrich Olsdorff : Legacy member who died from a fall, while hunting in Vienna in 1705. The leather strap from his saddle was found in the trunk. (Episode: Lights Out)
