Biography

Origin

Livewire in Action Comics v1 #835.

She was later willing stayed at S.T.A.R. Labs to go through experiments to better understand her powers. During this time, she encountered the Blue Beetle Jaime Reyes who was looking for help and she could sensed the Reach Scarab bonded to him. Livewire was able to drain energy from the Scarab which energised her until Reyes stopped her with further fighting stopped by Superman who arrived on the scene. (Blue Beetle v8 #15)

Livewire later escaped and decided to take an actor hostage in order to ransom him for money. Superman arrived at the scene but Livewire in the fight shattered some Kryptonite that temporarily blinded him and left him in pain as the shards struck his face. She was defeated by Batman leading to her arrest whereupon Superman was taken to the Fortress of Solitude to have the shards removed from his body. (Superman/Batman v1 #44)

Post-Flashpoint

Battling the Man of Steel in Superman v1 #711.

Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.

Leslie came to believe that S.T.A.R. Labs had the means of increasing her power and attacked one of their laboratories during the time when the entire Earth was shunted into the Phantom Zone. (Superman v5 #3)

Even at her resting state, she was able to generate 50 megavolts that was enough power to stop a human heart a hundred times over. (Superman/Batman v1 #44)

  • Livewire was created by Bruce Timm and was an original creation for the DC Animated Universe where she was voiced by actor Lori Petty in Superman: The Animated Series episode "Livewire" (September 1997).

Television

  • In the DC Animated Universe, Livewire was an original creation and made her first appearance in the animated series setting.
    • In Superman: The Animated Series, Livewire made her first appearance in the episode "Livewire" where she was voiced by actor Lori Petty. The character was originally Leslie Willis who managed to rise to being a popular but controversial radio shock jock who targeted anyone. Following the emergence of Superman, she began to verbally attack him during her broadcasts and challenged his role as a superhero. She later arranged for a rock concert to honor her third anniversary working at the radio station that was being held at Centennial Park at downtown Metropolis. The event continued despite a thunderstorm and despite warnings Willis ignored the danger. Superman arrived at the scene and attempted to save people from the damage caused by the storm but during the event Willis was struck by lightning despite the Man of Steel attempting to protect her. The electricity transformed Leslie Willis into a being of electric energy and gave her a different appearance. After learning her powers, she began to revel in their use and began operating as the supervillain Livewire.
  • In Supergirl, Livewire made an appearance as an antagonist in the episode "Livewire" where she was portrayed by actor Brit Morgan.
  • In Young Justice, Livewire appeared in the setting of the animated television series in the episode "Triptych" where she was voiced by actor Britt Baron. She was a electricity generating Metahuman criminal who was captured by Branchwater Security who controlled her through nanobots in order to conduct corporate sabotage operations. Livewire was ultimately defeated by Black Lightning but rather than face arrest she was afforded a second chance at a Metahuman Youth Centre due to her age as she was believed capable of becoming a law abiding citizen.

Films

  • In Justice League: Gods and Monsters, the character appeared briefly in the alternate universe setting as a minor antagonist where she was voiced by actor Kari Wahlgren.

Video games

  • In Superman: Shadow of Apokolips, Livewire appeared as a boss antagonist in the 2002 console video game where she was voiced again by actor Lori Petty.
  • In Superman: Countdown to Apokolips, Livewire appeared as a boss antagonist in the 2003 console video game.
  • In Universe Online, Livewire appeared in the setting of the MMORPG.
  • In DC Legends, Livewire appeared as a playable character in the mobile video game.
