Lucifer's Cage (Supernatural)
Lucifer's Cage is a prison that features in the TV series Supernatural.
History
Lucifer's Cage was a powerful prison cell that was designed by the Angels of Heaven in order to hold one of their own namely the Fallen Archangel known as Lucifer after his rebellion against God. After being created, it was placed within the lowest circle of Hell namely the ninth where it was designed to contain Lucifer's presence upon him being called the Devil. This was because Lucifer refused to bow down to Humanity after the Creator had commanded his Angels to love them more than Him. Though he argued that they were deeply flawed beings, in actuality Lucifer felt jealously towards them due to God's affection which led to him twisting the soul of one Human into the demon that would become known as Lilith. This combined with staging a rebellion in the Heavens against God led to Lucifer's downfall as he was deemed incapable of being saved thus the Archangel Michael was tasked with sending his younger brother to the deepest pits of Hell. Once there, the special prison known as Lucifer's Cage was crafted to hold him due to his great power that was second only to Michael.
After being Lucifer down and casting him into the cage, the prison as sealed with four personal rings being mechanisms to controlling it that were wielded by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Initially, the doorway to the Cage was located in Ilchester, Maryland where millennia later it was locked with a series of Seals that became known as the 66 Seals that served as locks to the prison and prevent Lucifer from escaping Hell. Whilst there were 600 Seals, only 66 were actually needed for the task of breaking the Cage with the first being broken by a righteous man who would spill blood in Hell. The final Seal was the first demon Lilith and if she were broken so to would the Cage. Whilst the majority of Demon kind were unaware of the location of Lucifer's prison, the site of its location had a church built over it that became known as St. Mary's Convent.
Background
Entrance to the circle of Hell where the Cage resided was seemingly only a single doorway initially situated in Ilchester, Maryland located beneath St. Mary's Convent. However, the mouth of the prison actually moved to wherever the keys were used to open it. Opening of Lucifer's Cage required the breaking of 66 of the 600 Seals which acted as locks to the prison cell. Without which, the Cage was powerful enough to surpress the great power of Lucifer and prevent him rampaging uncheacked as well as escaping Hell.
