Biography

Lucius

During his youth on Chemos, Lucius became noted for his talent and ability to master nearly any skill. He quickly gained sponsors among the elites of the planet and he gravitated towards the art of war, most notably swordsmanship. He displayed perhaps sadistic tendencies early on, killing individuals he claimed were beggars and brigands that had attacked him first. He proved to be a poor teacher, often scarring his pupils or cutting off an eye or finger in an "accident". When he took part in an annual swordsmanship contest on Chemos, Lucius garnered the attention of a hulking stranger in the shadows. He dueled against a famed champion twice his age, and after suffering a blow to his stomach, took apart his opponent piece by piece. As he was about to be attacked by the champion's supporters and disciples, Lucius was saved by a Sergeant of the Emperor's Children, who inducted him into the Legion.

During the Great Crusade, Lucius was the Captain of the 13th Company of the III Legion. His skill with a blade quickly became legendary among the Legion. In these early days, Lucius was widely celebrated as an unmatched, exceptionally gifted master swordsman who became obsessed with achieving absolute martial perfection. Other members of the Emperor's Children considered Lucius to be proud, foolhardy and sometimes a little childish. Even his closest friend in the Legion, Saul Tarvitz, was wary of him. He was never bested in swordplay; the only duel he is known to have lost was against Captain Garviel Loken of the Luna Wolves, who brought him down with a punch. In a later rematch, however, Lucius was victorious. Lucius took part in the War on Murder where he fought with a ornate antique sword, forged in the smithies of the Urals by artisans of the Terrawatt Clan - true relic of the Unification Wars.

This dark obsession led him to fall completely to the corrupting influence of Slaanesh, the Chaos God of Excess, prompting him to betray his loyalist brothers and embrace a life of endless gladiatorial slaughter. Following a historic duel in which he was finally bested and slain by Lord Commander Cyrius, his agonizing demise sent such a profound wave of transcendent pleasure to Slaanesh that the deity refused to let his soul pass into oblivion. Instead, the dark god cursed his executioner to painfully warp and mutate over several weeks, completely overwriting the killer's body to resurrect Lucius and trapping the victor's soul within his armor. Now acting as Slaanesh's ultimate, unkillable champion, Lucius leads his debauched warband across the galaxy, continuously seeking out the greatest martial challenges while welcoming his own violent deaths with the exact same passion that he uses to massacre his enemies.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Lucius the Eternal is a towering, terrifying Heretic Astartes whose physical body serves as a living testament to his extreme sadomasochism and continuous corruption. His pale, hairless face and torso are completely blanketed in a horrific maze of thick, ritualistic scar tissue, which he intentionally carved into his own flesh over centuries to commemorate every duel and tie his experiences of pain directly to satisfaction. He is permanently clad in the Armor of Shrieking Souls, a twisted piece of ornate, dark artificer power armor that features sharp, protruding silver pauldrons and corrupted gold iconography. The most disturbing aesthetic trait of this living armor is its exterior plating, which continuously shifts and warps with the agonized, screaming faces of every champion who has ever managed to defeat him in combat. These contorted, tormented visages writhe endlessly across his chest and limbs, presenting a fluid, metallic silhouette completely devoid of traditional imperial insignia. He came to be known as the Soulthief, Fulgrim's Champion, and as the Scion of Chemos.

Powers and abilities

Lucius the Eternal possesses a phenomenal, god-tier array of supernatural traits and martial capabilities derived from ten millennia of combat experience and direct blessings from Slaanesh. He exhibits unmatched speed, agility, and precision in close-quarters blade work, effortlessly dual-wielding the Blade of the Laer—a relic power sabre capable of slicing through elite power armor—and the Lash of Torment, a sentient, barbed daemon whip that acts with a mind of its own to entangle, suffocate, and tear apart adjacent infantry. His primary supernatural trait is his absolute immortality via the Curse of Slaanesh, which dictates that if anyone slays Lucius and derives even a single, microscopic moment of pride, triumph, or satisfaction from the act, they will become infected. The killer's body will slowly and agonizingly transform into Lucius himself over several weeks, permanently trapping the slayer's soul inside the armor while granting Lucius a full physical resurrection. This unique biological override can function on organic warriors, mechanical entities like Necrons, and rival champions alike, rendering Lucius virtually impossible to permanently eliminate through conventional warfare.
