Biography
Lucrecia Crescent (ルクレツィア・クレシェント Rukuretsia Kureshento) was estimated to have been born around 60 years ago where she worked as a Class A biotechnologist for the Shinra Electric Power Company under the direction of Grimoire Valentine, Vincent Valentine's father. Her thesis on Omega and Chaos had suffered much criticism and she was anxious to prove her collegues wrong. During one of their investigations they happened upon the suspected location of the dormant Omega. While there, they managed to extract an unknown specimen (a mass of stagnated mako from the Lifestream) to return to the lab for further testing--not taking into account the potential dangerous properties of the specimen. Excited that she believed she now had solid proof she hastened her experiments against Grimoire's advice. One day the specimen became dangerously unstable and broke free of its glass prision. At the last minute Grimoire pushed Lucrecia out of its path and was fatally wounded. Lucrecia was devastated by this and was not seen for sometime after.
She came to be assigned as an assistant to Professor Faremis Gast alongside Professor Hojo in the town of Nibelheim. They were to investigate the excavated specimen (later known as Jenova) from the Northern Crater which was suspected to be an Ancient (Cetra). Upon analysis they falsely believed it to be a Cetra and attempted to extract its cellular DNA in order to artificially produce soldiers with the Cetra's abilities. Vincent Valentine was assigned to monitor the project and guard the scientists much to Lucrecia's surprise given her history with his father. Vincent soon fell in love with Lucrecia and attempted to court her. Sadly, Lucrecia felt too guilty over the death of his father to return his affection even when Vincent insisted he did not hold her responsible. She entered a relationship with Hojo (for reasons which are up to debate), who — along with Professor Gast — used both her and their unborn child as the subject of the Jenova Project's first in vitro experiment. Vincent protested against this but Lucrecia maintained her stance on the issue causing tension between her and Vincent. During pregnancy, Lucrecia began receiving visions of the horrors her unborn son would commit, and in an untimely encounter, discovered Vincent shot by Hojo. Fearing for his life, Lucrecia exposed him to the stagnated mako which had been named "G Substance," causing the being known as Chaos to be absorbed into his body. Though his life was saved, he was left in a feral madness. His anger in this form could only be controlled by the ancient materia called the Protomateria which mysteriously appeared beside Lucrecia after she had cried out to him to stop. Disgusted with all that she had done to those she cared about and the changes Jenova's cells had wrought in her own body, she attempted to kill herself. However, she was unable to easily die because of the presence of Jenova's cells in her body, and, thus, she isolated herself in a cave and trapping herself within mako crystals located in a remote location. She was discovered by Vincent and the others, and she asks if Sephiroth had died yet. Vincent hoping to help her rest in peace falsely tells her that he had died
Lucrecia, before isolating herself from the rest of the world in the crystal, copied her mind into the World Network in case someone was in need of her help. Her mind was downloaded a few years later into Shelke Rui and was used by the Tsviets in order to discover the location of Omega and Chaos. When Shelke left the Tsviets and started spending time around Vincent, Lucrecia's mind began to leak through Shelke's consciousness allowing her to take on a reflective form outside her crystal prision. Through Shelke's SND interface, Lucrecia communicated with Vincent and helped him master Chaos and embrace it as a part of himself.
