Biography

Luke Ainsworth (ルーク・エインズワース, Rūku Einzuwāsu) was the son of the blacksmith Basil Ainsworth and grew up at his fathers smithy in the outskirts of the seventh district. In his youth, he trained to become a Blacksmith like his father and had a childhood friend named Lisa Oakwood. Oakwood had aspirations of becoming a Knight with her dream being the protection of others. Three years prior, a still training Luke used his developing skills to forge a katana for Lisa that he admitted was not very good but Oakwood was content with it. Whilst at his home, she was waiting for Luke's father who was buying tamahagane but grew bored. She then convinced Luke to join her in exploring the nearby caves by the mountain. Whilst there, they accidently stumbled on the bound demonic god Vaalbanil. The creature attacked the two where it effortless broke Lisa's katana. At this moment, Luke's father Basil arrived where he was killed by the beast who later killed Lisa. In her last act, she forged a demon contract from her soul for someone to protect her love Luke. This resulted in a demon being born in the shape of a young blonde haired girl that resembled Lisa Oakwood. The wounded Luke was the only survivor of Vaalbanil's awakening and he took the young girl with him where he unintentionally named her Lisa. In the aftermath, the demon of the mountain escaped and wreaked havoc on the lands leading to a period known as the Vaalbanil Wars.

Though Vaalbanil was defeated, he was not killed but rather slumbering and bound by a sword that kept him trapped. Houseman the First wrote a prophecy stating that the sword trapping Vaalbanil would eventually break thus freeing the demon. As result, the leaders of the various human kingdoms sought to craft a new "sacred sword" to keep Vaalbanil trapped. Thus, they gave the task to Luke Ainsworth who followed in his father's footsteps by becoming a blacksmith. With Lisa by his side, he remained at his fathers home away from human contact as he spent years attempting to forge the perfect blade.

Overview

Personality and attributes

As a result of the encounter with Vaalbanil, Luke lost his left eye that was replaced with an artificial one.

He came to believe that he was responsible for Lisa's demise thinking he sacrificed her life by making a demon contract to spare himself from Vaalbanil.

Luke came to regret naming Lisa after his childhood friend Lisa Oakwood. Though this was not because of missing her but rather because he felt that he placed an impossible standard on Lisa namely the expectation of her being like Lisa Oakwood.

Powers and abilities

Conducting a forging ritual.

With the aid of his right eye and Lisa, he was able to create a forging spell. This was a magical sphere where he placed materials needed to create a sword where he verbally called on the materials and directed their actions. Once complete, a blade was forged within moments with these strong but unable to last long from damage. Following a number of hits, they simply disintegrated which meant swords built in this manner needed to be carefully used in battle. Certain kind of foes were also too powerful to normally be fought with such blades. The forging seemingly had a toll on his body as a wounded Luke faced a great deal of pain with his cuts being further aggravated by casting the spell. It was even said that he could die from conducting the spell if badly wounded.

Though trained as a blacksmith, he was a capable swordsmen who regularly made use of a katana.
