History

The Makluans were a race of dragon-like beings native to another galaxy where they called Maklu-4 their home. (Tales of Suspense v1 #62) Their homeworld was also known as Kakaranthara which was situated in the twenty third declination of the Great Magellanic Cloud. It was noted for being a paradise world that was full of peace and fulfillment. On this world, a race of dragon-like beings evolved where they quickly learned that they could not practice the art of war as they would devastate their home planet. Thus, they developed a culture that was founded on science and art. The peace on Kakaranthara was not for being stifling for some members of the species who craved more exciting experiences. From their encounters on advanced worlds, they learnt of a violent primitive planet in the galaxy known as Earth that they sought out. (Iron Man v1 #274) Axonn-Karr of Maklu-4 was said to had been an explorer who contained numerous ring-shaped devices that allowed him to travel across galaxies in a mission of exploration. He had travelled to numerous worlds before coming to Earth where his dragon-like appearance saw him being attacked by the natives of China. This led to legends about a dragon slumbering within the area that came to be known as the Valley of Spirits. (Tales of Suspense v1 #62) After one of them were killed, the survivors fled into the land that then came to be known as the Valley of Dragons. (Iron Man v1 #272) They came to learn to take human form where their leader took the name Chen Hsu who alongside the others joined Chinese communities. Fin Fang Foom remained in his true form where a special herb was used by Hsu to keep him in a sleeping state. (Iron Man v1 #274)

Another ship of war-like Makluans later came to take several of their number to ancient England. The legendary British kingdom of Camelot was destroyed by attacking dragons. Merlin and the Lady of the Lake sought to prevent its destruction by projecting the mind of the Black Knight forward in time to the 21st century, and into the body of his descendant, Dane Whitman. There he enlisted the help of the recently-reformed superhero team Excalibur. Using the Lady of the Lake's power, the group was transported back in time days before Camelot's destruction. The teams then uncovered the fact that numerous Makluans had slain many of Britains native dragons, and that it was they who attacked Camelot. Excalibur returned to their own time after defeating the invaders. (New Excalibur v1 #10)

Makluans were present on the Intergalactic Council as they decided on what action to take against humanity over Earth's actions in galactic affairs. (Maximum Security: Dangerous Planet v1 #1) Fraktur from Kakaranthara who had not grown to her mature bio-mass when she was recruited to join the Nova Corps during the time of the Skrull invasion of Earth. (Nova v4 #19) At some unknown point, a Makluan pirate captain was captured and detained by S.W.O.R.D. where the alien was kept contained at the Peak. However, an incident emerged that saw the space station damaged and it jettisoned its prison hold onto Earth's surface. Director Abigail Brand managed to get the assistance of Cyclops Extinction Team to help capture the freed prisoners. (Uncanny X-Men v2 #9)

Fin Fan Foom came to a distant planet that he knew contained buried Makluan eggs. He wanted to bathe them in blood so that he could raise them as warriors where he began forcing captives to help excavate them. (Drax v1 #10)

During the Chitauri attack on Earth, the Guardians of the Galaxy sought to find allies from the alien worlds and went to Kakaranthqra to get the aid of the Makluans but they refused. (All-New Guardians of the Galaxy Annual v1 #1)

Kakarantharan society was noted to had been devoted a paradise world and one devoted to perfect peace as well as fulfilment. They had learnt quickly to not practice the art of war as they risked destroying their world and so developed a culture founded on science along with art. Their civilization developed without hunger or a desire for anything as all their needs were provided for them. It was a world of tranquil peace yet despite that there were dissidents among their kind as some found this existence boring and sought violence. (Iron Man v1 #274)

Their native language was known as Malukkian with their scripts written in it. (Iron Man v4 #21)

As a civilization, they had attained a high level of advanced technology giving them the power to create vessels able to achieve interstellar flight. The inhabitants of Maklu-4 were known to record mental logs within helmets that could be used to instil their science into other races. Their spacecraft were able to travel across galaxies with the suitable power requirements. (Tales of Suspense v1 #62)

In an effort to find peace, Fin Fang Foom meditated on Earth in order to reconcile the anger within him. This saw him splitting his essence apart where his inner peace manifested into a smaller form. However, his darker emotions such as his rage, guilt and selfishness similarly took the form of newly born Makluan dragons. These three dragons then sought his destruction forcing to flee to Avengers Mountain with the new Makluans fighting the Avengers. It was only the words of Broo that led to Fin Fang Foom merging his various selves back into his original form that ended the attack whereupon he departed the scene.
