Biography
Mami Tomoe (Japanese: 巴 マミ, Hepburn: Tomoe Mami) was a female human born in the modern age in Japan. She was the only child of her parents and lived with them until they were all involved in a car crash. After the accident, she was found to be the only survivor with both her parents having died and she was left seriously injured from the incident. It was during this time that Kyubey arrived who offered to save her life by turning her into a magical girl where she accepted the deal. As a magical girl, she was tasked with the elimination of witches with her performing this duty and enjoying her newfound role in life. In this time, she longed to form a team with others like her, however it was hard to find people willing to partner with her. Since making a recovery, Mami came to live alone in her penthouse where she performed her duties as given to her by Kyubey. A year later, she met Kyoko Sakura who was a girl that made her wish at about the same time as Mami but was far less experienced as a magical girl. Mami saved her from a powerful witch that was too much for Kyoko to defeat alone. Kyoko came to admire Mami's skill and ideals, and she was the first one Mami had met who thought in a similar way as she did. The two thus became a team where they fought witches and saved people together. In this time, Mami came to meet Kyoko's family, and the two girls become very close.
She arrived on the scene to rescue Madoka Kaname and Sayaka Miki from the witch's barrier where she decided to become a mentor to them if they choose to become magical girls. The two girls had rescued Kyubey from Homura's attacks, and in the chaos, a witch's Labrynth had swallowed all of them up. Confused and afraid, Sayaka and Madoka endured the Labrynth for as long as they could, when finally, Mami Tomoe arrives and takes out the witch which had been causing all of the surrounding illusions. Later at her apartment, Mami explains to Madoka and Sayaka that she is called a Magical Girl, tasked with fighting witches in exchange for one wish, which is granted by her companion, Kyubey. She tries to encourage the girls to think hard on the wish they would want, driving home the point that there is no turning back from the fate of a Magical Girl. No one but them can see witches, and no one but them can do this kind of work. It's lonely and hard, and not for the faint of heart, but she believes in the both of them. Mami decides to mentor Sayaka and Madoka, bringing them along on her witching patrols so that they can receive firsthand experience of what it's like to fight witches so that they can make an educated decision on whether to make a contract with Kuybey.
The next day at school, Madoka, Sayaka and Mami practice their newly found telepathic skills with one another while in class, avoiding Homura's intense glare as Madoka hangs on to Kuybey in her lap. Mami reassures both Madoka and Sayaka that Homura is not a danger to them, and that she is on standby should they need her. At some point that day, a Grief Seed hatches, birthing a witch, and Mami comes to the rescue of Sayaka and Kuybey at the behest of Madoka. Both Madoka and Mami enter the Labrynth together--restraining a frustrated Homura in the process--and they discuss the lifestyle of a witch, their friendship, and Mami thanks Madoka for being there with her because it helps her be less alone and afraid while she fights. The two shed happy tears, agreeing to fight together as witches, eventually promising to share cake with one another after slaying this witch. Mami and the witch begin their battle, with Mami maintaining the upper hand for the majority of the fight. She uses her specialty move, Tiro Finale, shooting down the body of the witch, seemingly defeating. Her celebration is in haste, however, because the witch's form changes shape, growing in size and animosity. It looms over Mami, chomping down on her upper half so that her Soul Gem is shattered as it feeds on her fallen body. Madoka and Sayaka watch in horror as Mami is killed, and Homura is released from Mami's restraints, allowing her to slay the witch and collect its Grief Seed, much to Sayaka's dismay.
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Mami Tomoe was a female human very curly blonde hair, usually in twin drills where she had yellow square-shaped eyes. When in her civilian form, Mami was seen in her school uniform. In her Magical Girl form, she had a beige skirt with black tips, and her top was a short-sleeved white shirt with puffs and arm warmers. In between her skirt and her top, she had a brown corset-like clothing garment and a small brown hat with white fur coming out of it, as well as gray and white striped leggings, and black and yellow, knee-high boots.
On the surface, Mami appeared to be very kind, gentle and cheerful girl. Generally, she was shown to be nice to everyone but had a dislike of Homura Akemi.
She demonstrated feminine tastes, such as drinking tea and dressing with flower clips in her hair and bows on her shoes.
She takes pride in her actions and saving people due to mentoring other Magical Girls, since she has been fighting Witches for the longest of all.
Mami had a strong sense of personal justice that kept her on the path of helping innocents despite gaining little reward for it. This sense of justice also made it difficult for her to team up with other magical girls for more than short periods. This was because many only fought witches for the chance of finding a Grief Seed or in self-defense.
Secretly, she was lonely and came to reveal this to Madoka Kaname.
She meets Madoka upon saving Kyubey from Homura. They get along very well and Mami acts like a mentor to Madoka, who adores Mami's Magical Girl nature. They care for each other and are good friends or teammates.
Powers and abilities
Originally, Mami Tomoe was an ordinary human with no special powers inherent in her. This was until the accident that left her seriously injured and she was approached by Kyubey. He would offer to grant her any wish with Mami having a deep desire to live and survive past her injuries. It was this that led to her transformation into a magical girl.
Her noted weapon of choice was a gun or two along with her ribbons. Mami's guns were stylized after 1600s styles of rifles with burning fuses and a single bullet, hence she shoots a rifle once before discarding them. The rifles were summoned from her own body and the larger guns followed the same mechanic.
She would often summon ribbons to trap enemies and she would also use the ribbon on her neck to cut things
