History

A Marauder Suit was a type of mecha that merged the qualities of mechanical exoskeletons with that of a tank. They were typically 10 feet tall and were capable of moving faster than an ordinary Human as well as carry a wide range of ordnance. They were employed as mechanised support by the Mobile Infantry. While most infantrymen were trained to operate a Marauder, typically only two such machines were assigned to a unit with a specialist piloting the machine. A Marauder suit requires 26 hours of maintenance to go from storage to operational status. However, while this was the case, the constant use of a Marauder in combat for roughly an hour of non-stop fighting can result in the unit winding down in performance capabilities.

There were two types of suits; one was a Humanoid style unit and another was a larger "chicken walker" style mecha. The smaller version can scale cliffs through the aid of its shoulder mounted grappling lines while the larger unit has a side mounted gattling gun.

Mongoose Publishing

The short run miniature line made by Mongoose Publishing, which should not be considered officially canon in the Starship Troopers universe, there were several types of Marauder suits employed.

APE Marauder

The M8 "Ape" Marauder Suit enables a single trooper to be able to take on a swarm of Arachnids and is more famous then the power suits worn by the Mobile Infantry. They were noted to be heavily armoured and armed with weaponry with its fists containing a Morita Ape special which are specifically adapted design of the rifle carried by standard troopers but rigged to be able to fire at a much higher rate. In addition to this, they possess a shoulder mounted Derringer light rotary cannon capable of shredding Warrior Bugs and a back mounted Trip Hammer mortar provides an indirect form of artillery support that is capable of harming a Tanker Bug. Finally, they also make use of the Hellseed Y-Rack grenade launchers to provide a measure of self protection should the bugs get in too close to the suit.

The APE is also equipped with jump jets providing an additional form of mobility despite its heavy weight.

Bigfoot Marauder

The Bigfoot was a variant of the M8 Ape Marauder and was known to be quite popular among operators. It made use of heavy Hail Mary mortars which outclassed the Trip Hammer in terms of range and firepower. The armour of the unit was increased giving a better level of protection to the pilot as well as vital systems making it a more reliable unit on the battlefield.

Chickenhawk Marauder

The M9 "Chickenhawk"' Marauder was a more specialized Marauder type and visibly quite different from the human shaped M8 as it employed a "chickenwalker" style. These were designed to be mobile gun platforms and were capable of bringing an enormous amount of firepower on the battlefield. The downside was that they were not as armoured as the Ape series as they carried heavy weaponry with the normal payload consisting of quick firing Javelin missile launchers that were capable of firing Pee-Wee atomic warheads as well as a Sixgun rotary cannon. Optional weapons that could be fitted include a back mounted Blizzard missile pack which was a one shot weapon capable of devastating an entire Arachnid swarm. The chin mount could accept additional weaponry combinations from Utility Claws that provide close combat defense to a Twin Fifty autocannon. It was also capable of making use of an Inferno support flamer

This marauder was equipped with an autoloader that constantly fed ammunition to the unit thus relieving the operator from any fear of running out of ammo in combat situations.

Nighthawk Marauder

A variant model of the Chickhawk, the Nighthawk was modified to serve as an anti-aircraft platform and was commonly used to fight the flying bug breeds. They retained the Sixgun rotary cannon and Javelin missile launcher but its Air Defence Array enabled it to clear the while while an integrated Y-Rack launcher kept enemies at bay providing it a level of support against both ground and air targets.
