Biography
Marinette Dupain-Cheng
Ever since Marinette learned to sew she made sweaters for her father's birthday every year. Marinette came to attend Collège Françoise Dupont for three years previously and attended an unnamed elementary school a year before that, all while sharing the same class with Chloé Bourgeois. Back in 8th grade, Marinette was not as confident before she was Ladybug as she was always bullied and picked on by Chloe's constant pranking, so much that she tried to convince her mom to let her stay home, but was told to remain hopeful as there were a few weeks until the school year ended and the chances of Chloé sharing a class with Marinette for the fourth year in a row was slim. However, Marinette doubted that her luck would change and accidentally spills her breakfast.
One day, when rushing toward school, Marinette notices an elderly man in danger and immediately saves him. While Marinette is not aware of this at the time, the man is Master Fu, the keeper of the magical objects called the Miraculouses, who has prepared a test in order to find someone deserving of becoming a superhero. Since Marinette has saved him, Master Fu decides to offer her the Ladybug Miraculous, which is a pair of earrings. After Marinette sees the box that contains the earrings and opens it, a creature resembling a ladybug who presents herself as Tikki appears; she is a magical being known as a kwami, who grants Marinette the power to transform into a superheroine when wearing the earrings.
Afterwards Marinette ran to the school doors, attempting to get to class while avoiding Chloé along the way. Which she seems manage until she gets to her locker finding a rude awakening as she opened, a swarm of bugs decorated the inside of her locker causing her to panic setting off another chain reaction joke caused by Chloe regardless she tried to leave for class, but was stopped by the principal, Denis Damoclès, who was informed by Chloé that she'd be out of class. Then was ordered by him to come to his office for her being out of class without permission. After her chat with Denis Damoclès, she finally went to class only for her science teacher, Ms. Mendeleiev, to scold her for being late and demanding her to go to her desk quietly and she obeys her as Chloé mocks her for the prank she pulled on her earlier. She dejectedly takes a seat only for her to yelp as she sat on a paint tube, wrecking her favorite pair of pants only to be mocked Chloé again for the nasty prank she pulled. Marinette figures outs Chloé was the one placing the paint tube on her seat, but Ms. Mendeleiev scolded her of accusing a student without evidence, not to yell, and to go to the principal's office for her actions only to be mocked by Chloé once again.
Later Marinette exits the principal's office with an additional three hours of detention on Saturday. Then was consulted by her friends explaining Chloé's actions towards her. When Chloe tried to torment Marinette again this time she was defended by her best friend Socqueline. But she was told about needing to stand up to Chloé on her own, as she won't be around to protect her much longer as she will graduate next year. And yet, Marinette remarked that everyone feared Chloé but then noticed Kim nearby and had a crushed on him much to Socqueline's disbelief that her friend could have a crush on Kim, asking her what she saw in him. Marinette believed she liked him for his kindness but Socqueline believed she was confusing kindness for foolishness regardless she decided to invite Kim to the swimming pool with her.
On her way to the pool with Socqueline, Marinette shared her plans: if all goes well and there's a moment that's right, she intends to confess her feelings to Kim. While having a splendid time at the pool with Kim, she decided to reveal her love for him. But she responded after opening a gift revealing spiders, that freaked Marinette out and sent her hurtling to the pool below. Seeing Chloe with a camera as she fell, Marinette realized that she and Kim pranked her devastated and traumatized from this experience, she was found by Socqueline, crying in tears that she was right about everything and how it so changed her outlook on love. From that point onward, she decided to know everything about anyone she fell in love with and made sure they're not friends with Chloé.
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Marinette Dupain-Cheng was a female human who was an attractive teenage girl standing at average height with black hair. She was noted to be a quarter French and a quarter Italian from her father's side and half Chinese from her mother's side.
Despite her outgoing and sympathetic personality, Marinette struggles with self-confidence and self-esteem. Before being Ladybug, she was more nervous and did not oppose others, but her confidence grew considerably since then such as talking with Adrien and standing up for others. In urgent situations, she becomes very nervous, clumsy, a bit awkward, and quick to panic which includes approaching her crush, trouble-choosing between her love interests, when in contact with major celebrities if she thinks others do a better job compared to herself or losing something that will expose her secret identity.
Marinette can act impulsively and irrationally at times, as shown when she deflected the false accusation of "stealing" Chloé's bracelet onto others who are also innocent. She is willing to do several risky tasks in order to protect her image, like erasing an embarrassing message on Adrien's phone by stealing it. More so when she expresses jealousy whenever other girls such as Chloé or Lila Rossi flirt with Adrien, even abusing her powers as Ladybug to keep them away or forgetting to detransform in the first place. However, Marinette learns from her mistakes and becomes a more open-minded, understanding person. She also takes advice from others very well, whether it is family or friends, as seen throughout the series. According to Marinette in "Family", as her civilian self-personality wise, she takes after her father, having her great uncle's creative side and her grandfather's fear of change".
Marinette Dupain-Cheng was the daughter of Tom Dupain and his wife Sabine Cheng. Her parents were both the owners of the Tom & Sabine Boulangerie Patisserie that was a bakery.
Powers and abilities
Master Fu came to choose her to wield one of the Miraculouses that were magical jewellery containing a Kwamis which were divine, spirit-like beings that embodied 'abstract' concepts. Using the Miraculouses, the bearer was capable of transforming into another form and gain mystical-based abilities. In the case of Marinette, she came to wield the Ladybug Miraculous that was inhabited by the Kwamis of Creation namely Tikki. To activate the earrings, Marienette had to speak the transformation phrase: Spots On. This led to her transformation where she gained a ladybug-themed costume. To deactivate the earrings, had to speak the detransformation phrase: Spots Off.
From Master Fu, Marinette learned the history of the kwamis and their Miraculouses. Her knowledge extends to the spells such as the incantation needed for the wish-granting power of the Ladybug and Cat Miraculouses. However, as Fu's understanding is limited, Marinette's training might be incomplete. But Master Fu knew that Marinette would figure out everything she needed to know about the Miraculous and grow stronger as a hero, she became the new Guardian of the Miraculous.
Marinette is very skilled at video games, easily beating Max at Ultimate Mecha Strike III and getting the highest score in the entire school. While playing with Adrien, she quickly wins the round they were playing. When playing with both boys, while the boys seem to be tense, and concentrating really hard, Marinette is the complete opposite. Unlike them, her expression is calm and collected, showing how easy and effortless it is for her to win.
