History

The Markers were mysterious objects of unknown extraterrestrial origins and were the source of Necromorph infestations. Their spread across space had led to the formation of a Convergence Event that led to the demise of countless civilisations across space. Around 65 million years ago, a Black Marker was present on an asteroid that crashed onto Earth in the gulf of Mexico with this being the extinction event that led to the death of the dinosaurs. Upon arriving on the planet, it began replicating a signal that guided certain species into developing knowledge so that they could become the supreme dominant race to inhabit the planet thus giving the rise to primates and eventually to humanity. Meanwhile, on the planet Tau Volantis, an advanced alien species that was 2 million years old came to find one of these Markers and sought to harness its power as it seemingly had the ability to create limitless energy. Thus, they began building copies of the Marker all around their world to generate more energy but were unaware of the relics true function. It began to influence the civilisation and led to the rise of a Necromorph infestation with the Markers seeking to bring about a Convergence Event that would see the population of the world being converted to form one of the Brethren Moons. In desperation, the last survivors of the alien civilisation built a machine that helped stop the Convergence Event leaving the Moon incomplete and trapped in orbit though this came a the cost of their extinction. It was believed that the alien race had thus sacrificed themselves in the desperate gamble to prevent the spread of the Marker infection.
