Biography

Martin Chatwin was a male human who was the eldest of the Chatwin children and the older brother to Jane Chatwin. During World War I, he along with his siblings stayed at the home of their Aunt Maude. Around this time, they were cared for their aunt who also kept at her home Christopher Plover. At some point, Martin and Jane had discovered a portal to a magical world known as Fillory. The two had many adventures whereupon they returned back to their home on Earth. Plover learnt of their adventures and desired a means of going into Fillory. By this point, Christopher Plover had been secretly sexually abusing Martin Chatwin by having him pose naked for pictures. Furthermore, the doorway to Fillory would not open for Martin whilst it remained for his sister Jane. Martin managed to make his way into Fillory when one portal remained open long enough for him to pass through the doorway.

As they explored this other world, Martin and his siblings would have many adventures which they came to later recount to Christopher Plover who was their neighbour and a novelist. The stories they told him were then retold as a series of adventure novels that became a popular book series called Fillory and Further.

He then devised a plan to stay in Fillory forever where he drank from the power of the Wellspring thus attaining god-like power.

After finding the source of magic, he absorbed it into himself which transformed him into a powerful magical being whereupon he took the name of The Beast.

Confronting the Fillorian god Umber, he made a deal to spare the deity's life where he wanted the location of his brother Ember. In exchange, Umber would be allowed to live on the condition that he depart Fillory and never returned. Umber was believed to had been killed and the Beast then tracked down Ember where he threatened to kill him unless the god departed Fillory.

Trapped within the loop, he was responsible for killing everyone in his path with time rewinding again to repeat events.
