Origin
Steve Dayton
Mento later leaves the Patrol, despite still being in contact with Caulder. Currently estranged from his wife, as his marriage fails when Rita finds out how Dayton routinely uses his mind-reading powers on her, he's called back by Caulder to stop an alien hive mind by using Rita's enlarged form as a proxy. Upon becoming aware of the newest violation, Rita decides to break every remaining tie with him, blaming Caulder too for her mistreatment.
Mento along with Miss Martian was shown amongst a group of psychics who were trying to purge the world of the Anti-Life Equation. (Final Crisis v1 #6)
Post-Flashpoint
Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.

- Mento was created by Arnold Drake and Bruno Premiani where he made his first appearance in Doom Patrol v1 #91 (November, 1964).

Television
- In Teen Titans, Mento appeared in the setting of the animated television series in the two-part episode "Homecoming" where he was voiced by actor Xander Berkeley. This version was the stubborn leader of the Doom Patrol and a father figure to Beast Boy who is obsessed with stopping the Brotherhood of Evil at any cost.
- In Young Justice, Mento appeared in the setting of the animated television series during its Outsiders where he appeared in the episode "Nightmare Monkeys" and was voiced by actor Scott Menville. This version was Beast Boy's legal guardian following the deaths of the Doom Patrol and Beast Boy's mother and godmother, Marie Logan and Rita Farr respectively, who exploits Beast Boy's metahuman abilities for profit despite displaying a mutual disliking towards him. After forming the Outsiders, Beast Boy is legally emancipated from Mento.
- In Doom Patrol, Mento appeared in the setting of the live-action television series during the episode "Doom Patrol Patrol" where he was portrayed by actor Will Kemp as a young man and by actor Dave Bielawski as an old man. ,
