Following a catastrophic global conflict where Earth's native human population completely decimated itself, the planet transformed into a savage staging ground known as the War World where nine distinct planetary houses physically settled their political disputes. The delegate from Mercury fiercely escalated these cosmic tensions by declaring a sudden, hostile trade dispute against the competing delegate from Jupiter, openly rejecting the newly proposed planetary peace accords. Seeking a permanent tactical advantage, Mercurian hunting divisions actively deployed across the planetary ruins to track down and capture elite hybrid warriors known as Forerunners, establishing a strict military objective to cross-breed with the captives to engineer the ultimate biological weapons for their star system. In appearance, the Mercurians were a multi-gendered extra-terrestrial race of humanoid entities whose true physical forms were tall, heavily segmented bipedal constructs that possessed highly distinct, reptilian and insectoid anatomical structures.
