Biography

Origin

Michael Akins

Early in his career, he came to work as a police detective in Gateway City where he served as a lieutenant in a precinct house in the toughest neighbourhood in town. This part of the city had its own masked vigilante known as the Watchdog though the individual was noted to kill criminals. Despite his brutality, his presence brought a change in the community who no longer came to respect the police and instead looked to the Watchdog to be their saviour. (Detective Comics v1 #758)

Later on, James Gordon came to be shot by a member of the department with him appointing Akins as his replacement as the new police chief. (Batman: Turning Points v1 #5)

Post-Flashpoint

Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.

Akins was noted to had been Police Commissioner of Gotham City at one point and had used the Bat-Signal to call upon the aid of Batman. He later left that post with him being appointed as the new Mayor of Gotham with Hamilton Hill operating as Deputy Mayor. Mayor Akins responded to questions from the press about Batman making use of a paramilitary army of vigilantes with Michael stating that the city had a police force and did not need another thus showcasing his administration's disapproval of Batman. (Detective Comics v1 #969)

Personality and attributes

He claimed that he did not disapprove of the Batman but believed that the GCPD should be more self-sufficient and less reliant on the vigilante. (Detective Comics v1 #758)
