Biography
Mikihisa Maki (Japanese: 幹久・真木, Hepburn: Mikihisa Maki) was a Japanese male born on born on October 9, 1958 where he had the natural ability to control Furyoku. It was this trait that allowed him to see spirits from even a young age. He came to be an unemployed musician who lived in an apartment with two other members of his band. One night, he was near the train station when he encountered Keiko Asakura (麻倉 茎子, Asakura Keiko) who had been dumped by her fiancé. She paid him 10 yen to play a song for her where she revealed that she was dumped because she could see ghosts. He came to reveal that he had a similar where the two formed a bond with one another. Keiko came to invite Mikihisa to her rented house in Tokyo where the two fell in love with one another. As their relationship grew, he decided to marry her where he decided to take her last name. This was because the Asakura Family lacked a male heir with Keiko being an only child. Thus, he decided to become known as Mikihisa Asakura (麻倉幹久, Asakura Mikihisa) to help continue the family line. When Keiko became pregnant, her father, Asakura Yohmei, predicted that the child would be the rebirth of their ancestor Hao Asakura and made the decision to kill the baby the moment he was born, so that Hao would not grow up in time for the upcoming Shaman Fight. As Keiko was revealed to be carrying twins, and with no method to predict which baby was Hao, Yohmei made the decision to kill both the babies, just to be safe. Immediately after the first baby was delivered, Yohmei summoned his Shikigami, but as he hesitated to kill his own grandson, whereupon the Spirit of Fire appeared, destroying the Shikigami Koois in the process. The Spirit of Fire then turned to attack Yohmei, but Mikihisa blocked the attack and subsequently suffered burns to his face. Before Mikihisa could get his own guardian ghosts to attack Hao, the Spirit of Fire had lifted him out of the way. With the Spirit of Fire gone along with Hao, later Keiko gave birth to Yoh Asakura.
After the incident, Mikihisa began wearing a bird mask to hide the injuries he received from the Spirit of Fire. Mikihisa blamed himself for failing to kill Hao when he had the chance. To make up for his own incompetence, he took a rigorous training regiment, traveling around the world and climbing mountains. It was then he first met Tamao Tamamura, who was an orphan girl. Mikihisa took her in as his apprentice, and he often took her on his training expeditions. Because of his frequent traveling, Mikihisa was almost always away from home and rarely spent any time with his son, Yoh. During most of his travels, Mikihisa also met Camel Muntzer when they both stayed in the same tent at Mount Kailas and they became good friends. Camel eventually asked Mikihisa to take care of his own children and Golem should anything happen to him. Mikihisa, alongside Tamao, watched the passing of Ragoh, signaling the beginning of the Shaman Fight. Yohmei had Mikihisa enter the Shaman Fight in order to investigate and monitor Hao. After following Yoh to Izumo, Umemiya Ryunosuke wanted to receive shaman training too and camped out at the estate's entrance for a week. Mikihisa recognized Ryu's resolve and convinced Yohmei to give in and train Ryu. Not much is known about his performance during the preliminary round, but Mikihisa did win two matches and advanced to the main competition. He and the other qualifying competitors attended the opening ceremony at Mimata Hall.
A month later, Mikihisa and the other competitors gathered at Yokocha Base and were flown to America in the Patch Jumbo. The shamans were tasked with locating and reaching the Patch Village within three months. While still tens of thousands of feet in the air, the jumbo jet was revealed to be an Over Soul shortly before it was dematerialized, dropping all of its passengers. After safely reaching the ground, Mikihisa secretly tailed his son, Yoh, and reported on the situation with Hao to Yohmei. Mikihisa successfully reached the village.[18] When Kyōyama Anna, Oyamada Manta, and Tamao reached the village, Manta and Tamao lost consciousness at the sight of the Great Spirit, but Mikihisa rescued them, bringing them to a room for safety. After the pair awoke, Mikihisa left while Anna went out in search of Yoh.
