Mogo is a living planet and character that features in DC Comics.

Biography

He was one of a number of sentient planets that were all siblings to one another and sought to provide to the younger races. However, one among them was wary of these people but the living worlds migrated sentients onto their surface and sought to fulfill all their needs. But these people would constantly take and instead ravage the planet. Among the only survivors was Raga who became more vindictive and killed the people that populated his surface in order to preserve himself. Mogo attempted to reason with his mad brother and even threatened him but he would not listen. Thus, to stop his sibling, Mogo moved to kill his sibling leaving the dead world vacant in space. (Green Lantern: New Guardians v1 #31)

Following the re-establishment of the Green Lantern Corps, a Thanagarian war fleet had arrived in his orbit in order to replenish their life support supplies and were pursued by Rannian forces that battled them during the Rann-Thanagar War. To prevent damage to Mogo, the Guardians dispatched Green Lanterns in order to protect the living world from the conflict. (Green Lantern: Recharge v1 #1)

Whilst within the pre-universe, Mogo and those Green Lanterns with him were attacked by the Lightsmiths who had their Power Convertors drain the energy from the living planet. As the various Lightsmith clans attempted to terraform the planet, Mogo took control of the various energies of the Emotional Spectrum that were tearing him apart and shattered the staffs of the invading light wielders. With it, he repelled the Lightsmiths but in the process was transformed into a living emotional convertor for the various spectrums of light. The Green Lanterns rallied with Mogo as they sought a way back to their universe where they rendezvoused at the Source Wall. (Green Lantern: The Lost Army v1 #6)

With the world subdued, Henshaw intended to give Mogo to the Ravagers of Olys to be their new homeworld. However, the Green Lanterns were freed through the intervention of Simon Baz and John Stewart leading to the Ravagers defeat. (Green Lanterns v1 #56)

Whilst in the pre-universe, Mogo for a time became a living emotional convertor and could wield the various spectrums of light of the Emotional Spectrum. (Green Lantern: The Lost Army v1 #6)

Notes

  • Mogo was created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons where he made his first appearance in Green Lantern v2 #188 (May 1985).

In other media

Television

  • In Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Mogo made a non-voiced appearance in the episode "The Eyes of Despero".
  • In Green Lantern: The Animated Series, Mogo appeared on the showay starting in "Lost Planet" where he was voiced by actor Kevin Michael Richardson.

Films

  • In Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, Mogo makes an appearance starting as one of the flashback sequences that is an adaptation of his comic origin premiere storyline. Hal Jordan would tell Arisia the story of the living planet alongside that of other members of the Green Lantern Corps. Mogo's story would involve Bolphunga the Unrelenting sought a challenge and was given coordinates to a planet where he was told he would find his greatest foe. Upon landing, he spent days searching for his prey but found no one so he escaped on his ship only to discover that Mogo was the entire planet itself. Afterwards, the entirety of the Green Lanterns rendezvoused at Oa's star in order to confront Krona and his army of Shadow Demons with Mogo arriving to lend his support for the battle.

Video games

  • In DC Universe Online, the character was introduced into the game following the DLC "War of Light". Mogo joins the Green Lantern Corps as support in the fight against the Sinestro Corps and the Red Lanterns. At the Metropolis battle zone, he was shown battling Ranx the Sentient City in the background.
