Biography

Morgan Pym was a monk in 1348 who sold his soul to the Devil to save the woman he loved. Her name was Katrina and she was dying from the plague. Ten years later the deal came to an end and Katrina died. Whereupon Morgan was about to go to Hell, the Devil offered him a choice. He could become a Collector, one who sends the souls of people who made deals with the Devil, to Hell. Kneeling next to the corpse of Katrina, Morgan says "I no longer care for God, or love or life, use me as you wish." By that Morgan accepts and becomes The Collector.

For the next 600 years, Morgan collects souls for the devil. Eventually he begins to see the possibility of redemption among those he is sent to collect and negotiates a new deal with the Devil. In so doing, he may now seek salvation for his 'clients' during their last 48 hours on Earth. One reason he claims to do this is because it would make the "game" (he sees collecting souls as a game) more sporting. However, he also agrees to this because of his favoritism towards Morgan.
