Ms. Hatcher

Ms. Hatcher was a teacher of literature at the middle school in Middletown. Her class was known as "Boredom 101" by her students. Despite this, most of them paid attention, all save little Johnny, who was more interested in looking at his Mars Attacks trading cards than in listening to Ms. Hatcher teach. One day, she grew tired of him ogling the lurid and violent cards rather than paying attention to her read The War of the Worlds out loud. When she saw that he'd drawn a picture of a Martian killing her by choking her to death, she angrily hit him and gave him after school detention, which made all the other students laugh.

Notes

• As with Johnny, it's unclear if Ms. Hatcher is an actual character in the comics' story outside of the prologue, especially considering how it ends, with Johnny's chalkboard drawing of a Martian coming to life and eating him.
