Biography

Poseidon Aegaeus

Around two millennia ago, Ossem the patriarch of Atlantis went before Neptune to inform his god that a cult had formed that worshipped a rival deity namely Father Set. This greatly angered Neptune and he told Ossem that he did not tolerate dissenters among his followers. When Ossem returned to his kingdom, he was captured by Balaal's forces who had instituted a coup that took over the city. Ossem was taken to an altar where he was intended to be sacrificed to Set to bring about the deity into the world. However, Neptune struck and destroyed the altar where his rage led to the death of the cultists. In fear, the Atlanteans scattered into the ocean with Ossem spending decades to unify them into a nation once more. In his old age, Ossem worried for his subjects but was dying and on his deathbed he begged Neptune to look after his people. His words touched Neptune's heart and he agreed to do so where he began to live among the Atlanteans in their now rebuilt city. He showed kindness and generosity to them with this leading to a Golden Age in the history of Atlantis with the Atlanteans adoring their god who they referred to as Father Neptune. (The Spectacular Spider-Man Annual v1 #9)

Long ago, Poseidon became bewitched at the beauty of the chaste priestess Medusa Gorgon who served the goddess Athena. The flattery of a god swelled Medusa's vanity and she forgot her vows leading to her having an affair with Poseidon that was consummated on the altar of Athena. In a rage over such debasement, Athena came to curse the once beautiful line of Gorgon's into becoming a race of monstrous serpentine women as punishment for Medusa's actions. (Incredible Hercules v1 #128)

After the Chaos War, Zeus returned to his position as Skyfather of the Olympian pantheon where he manifested their city on the mortal plane. At that time, the Hulk decided to confront Zeus and demand of him a boon namely to fix the problems inherent in his life along with those of his friends. However, he had to battle the protectors of Olympus in the process with the first being Neptune who managed to wash the Jade Giant away from the shores of the city. Despite that, the Hulk managed to evade him and ascend deeper into the city fighting more of its defenders in the process. (Incredible Hulks v1 #621)
