History
The Northern Hemisphere Treaty Alliance (NTA) was formed in the beginning of the 21st century when a military confrontation developed between the North and the South. As the South suffered from an energy crisis as well as food shortages, they began to resent the North which led to anti-North terrorist activities. As this spread around the world, the North responded with its many countries forming the Northern Hemisphere Treaty Alliance that was to serve as an international peacekeeping force in order to combat the increasingly militaristic South that were resorting to terrorism. The collective work of the NTA led to the creation of a state of the art aircraft carrier designated the Heimdal that was built in 2023. This vessel had a staged defensive system and was linked to the satellite defense system which made it nearly invulnerable to any air based attack. One of the first actions that the Heimdal was deployed on was to assault a base belonging to the terrorist group known as the Southern Cross. The operation was designated the Hurricane Mission which lasted only a few days where the carrier completed its objective by completely destroying the enemy base. Once done, the Heimdal was tasked with returning back to friendly sea in North America.
However, on its way back, the Heimdal received new orders from the NTA which was to journey to a remote isolated island in the South Pacific designated NC-0023. The objective was to pick up a newly discovered ancient organism designated ARK that was located in the region. After being excavated, the creature was brought onboard the Heimdal in order to be studied. Shortly afterwards, members of the crew began to act strangely and showed symptoms of paranoia as well as were shot for resisting detention. Unknown to the outside world, the ARK had released a virus that began infecting the crew causing a quarantinee of the Heimdal. Two days later, all contact with the Heimdal was lost and failed to respond to any transmissions from the NTA who decided to send a SPARC team to investigate what had happened. After learning of the magnitude of the threat, they were responsible for the destruction of the ship and the elimination of the ARK before it could spread across the world.
Background
The Alliance was an international organization that consisted of numerous Northern nations which included North America that were united under a single umbrella. Members of the various nation militaries also contributed in the formation of the NTA's own armies as well as special forces. One of its leading body's was the NTA Defense Council that handled matters of military importance. Another important division was the NTA Information Department that served as an intelligence agency for the Alliance. The NTA Development Department was another agency present that served in a research and development role for the Alliance. NTA Special Forces were a military unit within the organization that were deployed on sensitive missions. Investigation teams known as SPARCs were also deployed into the field in order to check up on any incidents.
According to the NTA International Charter Article 121, Paragraph 1; a ship captain was capable of ordering his crew to abandon ship in case of an extreme emergency. The International Research Institute was closely linked to the NTA and provided scientific support and analysis for certain missions.
The NTA had the financial capital to deploy a powerful aircraft carrier such as the Heimdal that was supported with anti-aircraft technology. They made use of an unmanned aircraft designated the NF-UO36. Another notable piece of technology developed by the NTA was the BEM-T3 Scope which was a scanner that determined if an individual suffered from any form of virulent infections. It was developed by the Alliance for infantry in cases of biological warfare and was able to distinguish human from non-human lifeforms. Furthermore, it could see in the dark and could even see through some objects. Other equipment available to operatives of the NTA were T-7 bombs that were grenades used to both remove obstacles as well as eliminate enemies.
