Overview

The origins of the Odinsblade was deeply rooted in Norse mythology and their chief deity the Allfather himself, Odin. Amongst the Nine Worlds in creation, it was said that Odin smiled most favorably on Midgard which was the realm of Man. It had been long prophecised that the doom of the gods would come in a time known as Ragnarok when their entire kingdom would be destroyed. Of all the gods, it was Loki who was the only one who did not fear Ragnarok and in fact desired its achievement. For his vile acts, Odin chained the evil god deep beneath the Earth in order to prevent him from achieving his goals. Furthermore, he forged the runestones; items of power that bore his personal rune and prevented the coming of Ragnarok. Placing them in Midgard, a select number of Viking warriors were chosen to form an elite order with the mission of protecting the runestones. This became known as the Odinsblade who maintained a proud tradition and sworn duty of protecting Odin's personal runes that bound Loki with them being notable for being fierce warriors.

At some point, a Norse warrior by the name of Conrack sought to release Loki and began his plans at breaking he runestone. During this time, the Odinsblade initiated their latest member Ragnar into their order. At the village of Wotenkeld, he completed the trials and received the initiation ceremony where he wore the medallion that signified his acceptance into the Odinsblade whereupon they learnt of an an attack on a neighbouring village. Gathering their forces, the Odinsblade rushed to save their allied people and journeyed through longboat. Just before Ragnar's father gave the order to attack, Conrack called upon the power of Loki and sent a mighty blast of lightning at the ship bearing the Odinsblade forces. This act seemingly killed everyone who were plunged the depths and had apparently seen the destruction of the Odinsblade. However, the Allfather himself had been watching events and saved the young Ragnar and told him it was not his time to die. Surviving this assault, he amde it into dry land and went about continuing his orders ancient covenant in protecting Odin's runes from destruction as Ragnarok would signal the end of the Human race.

During his quest, Ragnar journeyed through the domain of Hel herself and journeyed to the mountain fortress of Conrack known as Thorstadt. There, he fought into the Temple of Loki where he witnessed the death of the only surviving member of the Odinsblade; Sigurd. As Ragnar approached the dying warrior, Sigurd told him that he was the last of the Odinsblade and that it was his duty to save the world after which he died. From there, Odin gave Ragnar the command to kill the Dwarven king that was suppling Loki's forces with weapons and later went deep beneath the earth in order to enter Loki's castle where the god of chaos was imprisoned. There, he defeated Conrack even after the Viking warrior had been transformed into a hideous monster by Loki's blood. However, Ragnar fell into the river of Loki's blood and was transformed into a powerful yet abominable being. Despite this, he remained true to his duty as a member of the Odinsblade and went back to his village in order to finally kill Conrack and save the runestone from destruction which ensured Loki's continued imprisonment thus fulfilling the ancient duty of his order.

The game possesses a dual ending as Loki by the end tries to tempt Ragnar into joining him and if he does so Ragnar shatters the runestone instead but this leads to him being imprisoned in Loki's cave whilst the god of chaos brings about Ragnarok. The above good ending, however, was deemed as canonical though it seemingly implies that the Odinsblade were destroyed as a result.
