The Odyssey was a spacecraft that featured in the cartoon series Ulysses 31.

History

With his duties at Troy completed, Ulysses took the Odyssey and its crew in order to return to his wife Penelope. Along the journey, the ship encountered an unknown planetoid which was not on the ship charts. Whilst investigating, the Odyssey was attacked by an energy beam which took Ulysses son Telemachus tothe worshippers of the Cyclops.

After a battle with the beast, the captain of the Odyssey slayed the creature which resulted in the unknown planets destruction. However, this act angered the gods of Olympus who promised a terrible revenge on the Human. They cast a spell that left most of the crew in deep sleep leaving Ulysses, Telemachus and Yumi awake as well as the robots. The gods then sent the Odyssey spiralling into unknown stars with its exile only ending when the ship found the Kingdom of Hades.

Background

The Odyssey was a large vessel designed to support a large crew complement. The ship served as a type of colony ship with little in the form of weaponry but possessing extensive scientific equipment. Its form was distinctive with a large ring shaped in an oval pattern around a central sphere. The top of the ring held the bridge while four sides contain the thrusters for the ship.

The bridge was a circular chamber with numerous command posts centered around the main computer. This location contained numerous windows allowing for the crew to gaze into space as well as screens through which the ships computers displayed information or magnified imagery that rhe ships sensors detected.

The vessel also contained a number of hanger bays one of which allowed for the deployment of smaller spacecraft allowing the crew to reach a planet. Another hanger located on the lower ring housed automated satellites called science modules which were deployed in unique situations.

The ship possessed a photonic energy drive which propelled the ship across space. When activated, the vessels central iris opened up revealing a green cloud inside the spherical centre.

To protect itself from harm, the ship possessed a protection screen which was a thin energy barrier that surrounded the vessel. This screen was capable of protecting the Odyssey from harm and was able to withstand energy blasts.

Irs large nature meant that it contained an extensive number of chambers within its hold which included the main garden where flora was present which maintained an aspect of living on a planet.

Shirka

A feminine ship computer that controlled the functions of the Odyssey. Shirka's main systems were located on the bridge where she took the form of a pillar suspended from the cieling with its type containing a dome where imagery of stars acted as the computers face. Her memory banks were extensive and capable of containing a whole database of charted space and was capable of entering new information into it.
