He operated as an ordinary young civilian residing in a local neighborhood, largely separated from the domestic oversight of his estranged father, Patrick "Eel" O'Brian. Having accidentally consumed a watered-down concentration of the hazardous chemical acid that had historically granted his father elastic traits, the youth permanently altered his molecular biology to gain advanced shape-changing capabilities, including total control over density, extreme physical malleability, and unique color alteration. His civilian isolation was abruptly disrupted when Batman tracked his coordinates to an outdoor concrete basketball court, executing a covert stakeout to observe the teenager using his shape-shifting elastic powers to effortlessly dunk a basketball. The Dark Knight initiated a direct, low-stakes confrontation to assess the boy's moral alignment, revealing that his biological parent was actually the legendary Justice League member Plastic Man. After defusing the initial tension by offering the youth a ride inside the Batmobile. Overcome with profound physical and psychological trauma from the prolonged temporal entrapment, the senior hero explicitly decided to quit the primary roster of the Justice League of America to prioritize his domestic duties. To establish a stable, safe environment to bond with his son, Patrick "Eel" O'Brian utilized advanced mental programming to completely block out his own memories of his superhero identity and shape-shifting powers. Luke Ernie "Loogie" McDunnagh O'Brian looked after his amnesiac parent as they settled into a quiet civilian routine, but their peaceful domestic isolation was abruptly compromised when a global crisis emerged involving Martian Manhunter regressing into a destructive, fire-wielding entity known as a Burning Martian. Recognizing that his father’s complete immunity to telepathic manipulation made him the only asset capable of surviving a direct physical confrontation with the alien threat, Luke Ernie "Loogie" McDunnagh O'Brian partnered directly with Batman to intervene. The duo successfully initiated an intense emotional negotiation to shatter the psychological blocks, restoring Patrick "Eel" O'Brian's true consciousness and power set to ensure he could safely deploy alongside the Justice League to combat the escalating existential emergency.
